The world doesn't offer us rest---but God does! Transforming the perception of Christianity as a vehicle for good behavior---and the judgmental feelings that result from it---into a way for those who have failed to discover the love of Christ, Tchividjian calls for believers to abandon our play-it-safe religion and embrace the power of God's unflinching grace. 224 pages, softcover from Cook.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who reads very deeply and who reads about four/five books a week! He loaned me his copy, but I quickly realized I had to have my own! This book has revolutionized much of my thinking. I have purchased seven copies for family/friends for Christmas!
I have embraced the "thought" of unconditional love for many years but had not realized that saying I believed in this concept was one thing-living it another. This book was given to me at a time when we have had a horrendous act uncovered in our family, following desertion of a beloved daughter and children by her pastor husband! I have been forced to decide--bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness or the action of unconditional--ONE WAY--love. I thank the LORD for Tullian and his integrity and openness. I believe that my friend was inspired to give me this book--without any knowledge of our troubles--by our Father because He knew that I would need it desperately trying to survive on this battlefield at this time.

Review 3 for One Way Love: Inexhaustible Grace for an Exhausted World
One Way Love by Tullivan Tchividjian is on a subject we sing about...and how Amazing it is, read about, and experience without always truly grasping the concept: GRACE. We live in a world of reciprocity and find it much easier to understand the concept of law---you do this, and that is your reward or consequence. But grace is unmerited favor that is undeserved. Using a variety of anecdotes from his own life, literature, celebrities, and familiar people from the Bible, Tchividjian gives us examples to bring home his point in a manner that makes it more easily understandable. You know how we exhaust ourselves trying to please God (and others) to prove we are worthy. There are also those who defiantly break the rules, and are surprised when shown grace anyway. Tchividjian reminds us that God's grace is here for us to accept. When we try, and when we fail to live up to our own expectations of what we should do, God's love for us does not increase nor does it diminish. God's grace truly is sufficient. This is a really good book and I do recommend it.

Review 4 for One Way Love: Inexhaustible Grace for an Exhausted World
In case you couldn’t tell, I am an avid reader of many different genres of books. I love fiction and nonfiction novels that spur the heart and mind, or a book that challenges me. One Way Love is filled with truth shared by an author who allows his heart and life to be transparent to readers. When an author shares truthfully what good or bad choices made in their life and what they learned, somehow that should arrest the attention of the audience. While it is certainly true one can sit down, read each word and gain nothing from the writing, I am happy to say that for me this wasn’t the experience. I pray it isn’t yours either. Each chapter brings to the forefront behaviors or thoughts fallen human beings do or have done that can bring either blessing or bondage. If it brings bondage, the author shares how his past experiences are examples of how he was chained. He further shows how God’s one way love not only freed him, but lifted him out. What was really inviting was the way God used various people in his life to be examples. No matter who anyone is, we all are sinners in need of God’s love, grace and forgiveness and not just once, but each and every day as we seek to repent. We can be conduits by which His Spirit leads us to be examples of His one way love. When I sat down to read the book, I had a highlighter, pencil and Bible close by and trust me I used them. Truthfully the author shares how God loves us long before we ever think to love Him. He shows how we can become trapped into thinking or acting that by performance we gain God’s attention or favor, and then shows us what we really bring to Him. With so much uncertainty in the world today, we might get caught up trying to control our own little world right where we live, but the freedom comes when we let go. I could tell you more about what the Lord spoke to me personally as I read the book, but the fun will be to hear how He speaks to you. Let’s face it; everybody is tired of trying to meet standards, expectations or goals. We then take those into our relationship with the Lord and before we know it, we can’t even seem to find beauty in our life. So how about it, would you like to challenged, touched and lightened? Then sit down, read a chapter and mark up the book. Get your Bible, notebook and pen and then listen to the still small voice that is filled with more one way love than perhaps you remember.
