Combining the myth of Atlantis with the Matter of Britain, Lawhead's retelling of the Arthurian legend is hauntingly beautiful and strikingly original. From Taliesin the bard who envisioned the Summer Kingdom, to his son Merlin who prepared Britain for the king, to the regal Arthur who struggled to hold his kingdom together, The Pendragon Cycle will enchant you, from the first book to the last. Approx. 440 pages each, softcovers from Avon.

I have NEVER liked the story of King Arthur and it has been told a million different ways. But about 12 years ago I bought a "mystery box" of Science Fiction/Fantasy here at CBD for a very deeply cut rate. I had a lot of time on my hands and was desperate for Christian fiction. In that box was a book by the author Stephen Lawhead. Never heard of him. The book was called, "The Paradise War" and I have been a major fan of Stephen's ever since. I've spent all these years collecting Stephen's entire catalogue of books. When I finally got my last book in the Pendragon Cycle I began to read ... and read and read. I was out of circulation for 2 weeks. No one could contact me or find me. I spend 18 hours a day reading these books. And when a person puts their life on hold to read books, well, can I give it any higher commendation?I should also like to mention that there are 2 other books which are not "officially" part of this series but were added by Stephen later: "Grail" and "Avalon". But they are not quite as great as this core of 4 books. I have started buying this set anywhere and everywhere I can find them and give them to friends and family in order to introduce Stephen Lawhead to them. It is the author at the height of his writing abilities. And if I may add a final comment: I went to his website, wrote to him personally (with pen and paper) and now consider him a friend and have found him to be both godly and humble as well as the greatest writer next to God (who wrote the Bible). It is fascinating to read ALL his books from his first to his most recent release "Tuck" (part of the King Raven - Robin Hood - Series). You can see the developement of his talent and his love for the Lord. Buy it, buy it , buy it.Thank you for taking the time to read this.

These books are amazing! Lawhead combined all the different versions of the Arthurian Legends as well as the myths of Atlantis so well it made sense, and it made a wonderful story at the same time. I definitely recommend these books to anyone with an open mind who is the least bit interested in Arthurian fantasy or ancient Britain.
