Anne of Green Gables was my favorite story while I was growing up. One year, my favorite teacher gave ALL of the girls in our class a copy of this book as Christmas gifts. She gave all of the boys a book about the history of many early American and frontier heroes - such as Paul Revere, Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett! I was so inspired by the kindness of my teacher's gift that I read Anne of Green Gables over and over. And, eventually read all of the other books by the same author which I could discover. I have wanted to give a copy of the ORIGINAL book to my grandchildren for quite some time - but this is the first time that I have been able to find an unabridged edition which was so reasonably priced. I am now looking forward to making a gift of this book to my grandchildren. I hope they will be able to enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed reading it over the years.

When Rachel Lynde sees Matthew Cuthbert wearing his best suit of clothes and driving his buggy out of Avonlea at three in the afternoon she knows something it going on. They might set fire to the house, rob them blind, or put strychnine in the well.Anne Shirley is thrilled to meet Matthew Cuthbert. Hes shy, but Anne has no problem chattering on as they drive back to his home. Anne can hardly believe that she is finally going to belong to a family, have a real home of her own. It all seems too good to be true, and when Marilla Cuthbert says, Where is the boy? Annes dreams are crushed. No one ever did want her. But Marilla isnt ready to jump to any quick decisions. She decides to let Anne stay on trial to see how things might work out. Anne Shirley is an endearing orphan: quirky, dramatic, and hilarious. I love Anne. Ive always loved Anne. She is one of my favorites. She touches my heart in so many ways. I relate to her drama and dreams. Every girl should read this book once, if not over and over. I highly recommend it!
