The book reads easily with a blend of devotional stories, insights and simple Bible study. There are several reflection questions at various points in each chapter. I would have thought that Richard Foster would have put more direction in the book on actual exercise of the spiritual disciplines. Readers that are looking for a study guide on themes related to spiritual formation will enjoy the material. Those seeking a book to direct them in spiritual formation may be disappointed.
