Lillenas A Classical Christmas: Piano Solos

Emily Tufenkjian has provided these sparkling arrangements, in the popular "classics combined with carols" genus. Teachers and students will appreciate the careful attention given to finger markings. Performers and listeners will enjoy the thematic cohesiveness of such arrangements as "Silent Night" combined with Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"; "Away In A Manger" combined with Brahms' "Lullaby"; and "The First Noel" combined with Bach's "Minuet." This moderate collection will be an attractive "quick read" for the accomplished pianist and an enjoyable challenge for the developing pianist.

Having added this to my rather large library of Advent and Christmas folios several years ago, I got it out again to play for church services during Christmas season 2010. Once you begin to play the first few, you are likely to play through all because of the great sounding and interesting arrangements of well-known carols with quotes and styles from well-known classics. Well worth the rehearsal time and effort. My opinion comes from the perspective of one who prefers arrangements that stand out from most folios — more challenging than not; keeps my interest; would be appreciated by the congregation; and does not do disservice to the originals.

Love this songbook. Have purchased many hymn/classical blends, and this is one of my very favorite. The "Away in a Manger/Lullaby" song, while a relatively simple flow, is very moving and enjoyable to play. Everytime I play I get lots of positive feedback. Highly Recommended!

I love this book. It uniquely entwines classical music with Christmas Carols. The pieces are beautiful and this particular book is of medium difficulty.
