I bought this devotional as something to read aloud and discuss with all my kids. I wanted something that helped them think about how to handle real-life situations with God's Word in mind. This book does that at a level they can understand. My only disappointment with this book is that some of the devotionals call for writing, marking and coloring in the book (much like what you'd see in a bible coloring & activity book). Obviously, this is a problem when you've got one book for 3 kids and/or you intend to reuse this year after year. We just skip these pages and the rest of the book is good enough that I don't regret my purchase (primarily because I haven't seen anything better for my purposes). However, it does diminish the value I get from the book and I wish I'd been clearly informed of this feature in advance. When it said there were "activities", I envisioned reading instructions from the book and then doing an activity separately, such as a game, craft, or drawing/writing activity that instructed you to work on separate paper, NOT in the book itself. Again, though, the devotionals are well written enough to make up for this flaw and I would still recommend this book. I'd just make sure the person I recommended it to understood the nature of the activities prior to purchase.

I bought this for my 7 yr old daughter and she loves it. We both enjoy the situations, the questions afterwards ("What should Maddie do?") and then the scripture references it has you look up. We tried another devotional book and although it said it was for elementary kids, it really should have been middle school. This one however, is perfectly written for the elementary age. I am buying a 2nd copy to give away at our next Moms' group meeting. Great book!

I am a children's minister and have been a Christian book and Bible retailer for over ten years. The first book in this series was ample reason for me to begin recommending this devotional series to parents of elementary students.2nd-5th grades. However I did like the format of the second volume. Its content dealt on a lower cognitive of material. The content dealt with everyday issues including sibling rivalry, school issues like cheating and the choices children have to make on each of those levels of learning.I had told my youth to make the decision to do the bright thing before you get in the back seat of a car, and Sticky Situations helps children do that on a child's level. (w/o the back seat stuff) Schmitt has done a wonderful job of communication God's principles to kids-yours and mine for eternity's sake. These are also great for brain teasers before SS, Jr Church G-force or whatever your extra church activities are today. The two volume set are an added bargain.(30+ years working with kids) Loving every minute!!!!!

This is a wonderful tool for helping school age children make decisions. Each situation is presented clearly with a scripture that applies to that situation. Then the child chooses the best solution from the ones given.
