This novel by Francine Rivers explores the relationship between Alex and Sierra Madrid. After ten years of marriage in the small town where they both grew up, their marriage is put to the test when Alex accepts a new job in Los Angeles. Rivers does not shrink from exploring the difficult issues that face the Madrids as a result of their own choices. But she is very clear on how God redeems those choices and brings beauty from the ashes.
Intertwined with the story of the Madrids is the story of Sierra's ancestor, Mary Kathryn McMurray. Mary Kathryn faced similar experiences and trials, and through reading her journal, Sierra is able to experience the love of God in a much deeper way.
Overall, this was a great read with a lot of depth to the story and the characters. Definitely recommend!

This story shows that now matter what century you live, you will have trouble. Life is full of challenges and relying on God is the only way to make it through.

This was a very enjoyable book to read. I truly could relate to circumstances in Sierra's life and it became very clear why. In a relationship there are often many differences, priorities, and selfish acts that cause disagreements and heartache. Realizing God is in control and trusting that He will provide our every need, frees us from feeling we have to fix everything. If Jesus is the center of our lives and we seek answers through His word, we will find peace and trust, relaxing the worries that plague us and take up so much of our time.

Great book. Typical Francine Rivers - quick read - spiritually motivating to the point of action in your own life. Only gave it 41/2 because I rate The Mark of The Lion trilogy and Redeeming Love above this.

I am a new Francine Rivers reader. After reading The Scarlet Thread and Redeeming Love, I want to read all of her books. The Scarlet Thread was incredible. Being a lover of family ancestory, I was thrilled with this link between the 19th century woman and the modern day 20th century woman, especially the way in which they both came to know the Lord.

Another great novel by Francine Rivers. Parts of this story touched on areas of my own life and what refreshing lessons to learn or be reminded of while enjoying the story.

Really interesting book intertwining two stories of two characters from two different periods of life. I like and respect that Ms. Rivers' deals with real problems and temptations that we all face to one degree or another. We are human and picture perfect stories are not human. Ms. Rivers' tackles it head on and doesn't shy away from imperfect characters who make some poor choices. That's exactly what we do every day as humans. I'd rather relate to an imperfect character facing real problems and temptations than a Chrsitian fairytale any day.

Redeeming Love is the first of Mrs. Rivers' books that I have read. I was very impressed with her detail and descriptions of the characters' emotions. Redeeming love is too graphic for young children, but I think that a mature 12-year-old could handle it. Mrs. Rivers portrays excellently the redeeming love of God. I recommend this book to ANY Christian who is mature enough to deal with the graphic parts.

I've read this book 4 times. Each time it still stirs my heart. Francine Rivers writes realistic stories. Everything doesn't always come out the way it would at the movies. Instead it comes out like life. Sometimes God says no and He allows us to suffer through the hard times.
