This is a wonderfully written swashbuckling adventure. At the same time it is an incredibly well written look at how past baggage and methods of dealing with problems can take over again for believers when disaster strikes. The character development is fantastic, not only for the two main characters but also for a fairly large number of secondary ones.
Both Charlisse and Edmund had go-to ways of dealing with problems. As well as thought patterns that had developed before they accepted Christ. When they are torn apart and believe the worst they each revert to their past methods. The battle then becomes one of trying to trust God and believe what they had learned of Him.

Not only does this well-written books have an intriguing plot and engaging characters (even the villains), but the spiritual aspect of the book was a balm to my soul. It's powerful as well as entertaining. It's a must-read.

In book 2 in "The Legacy of the King's Pirates" series, Charlisse and Edmund are enjoying married life, and they are expecting their first child. Unfortunate circumstances separate the young lovers, and lead Edmund to believe that his bride is dead. To drown his sorrows, he turns his back on God and the painful memories of his wife, takes up his bottle of rum and seeks to pillage and plunder like he did prior to meeting Christ. Meanwhile, the captured Charlisse tirelessly strives to be reunited with her husband. But by the time Edmund and Charlisse meet again, will Edmund have gone too far to be reconciled to his lady love.
This is a wonderful adventure story. The action is nearly non-stop. I was completely impressed with how the author brought to light the craftiness of the enemy to use self-doubt to keep us from being all that we can be through Jesus. M.L. Tyndall's characters model traits that I would like to possess - tenacity, a capacity for forgiveness, humility, grace and faith under pressure. You cannot put this book down, so start it very early on a Saturday morning and clear your schedule for the day!

The Reliance is the second book in the Legacy of the King's Pirates series.
The Reliance brings back the characters from the first book, Captain Merrick and Charlisse. An old enemy also makes an appearance. Kent wants revenge, and he gets it. Kent is changed by a woman he has kidnapped on his ship. Isabel befriends Charlisse; the two women battle their way through terrifying times aboard the ship of an evil man, hoping Merrick, or anybody, will save them. Meanwhile, Merrick has given up everything good and is losing his mind, believing his wife dead.
The book follows misfortune after misfortune, which originally did not appeal to me. Then I found out that MaryLu Tyndall modeled her book after the story of Job. And we all know how the book of Job ended...that should give you a hint as to why you must continue to read this series.
I have read this book three times. The second time I picked up parts that I had missed, making me appreciate it a lot more. Plus, I knew the ending!

A continuing story takes place in "The Reliance" by MaryLu Tyndall where we last left Charlisse & Captain Merrick. Both on a mission together in the beginning of the story, soon a huge tragedy takes place separating the two newly married and finally able to spend their life together. Captain Merrick believing Charlisse, his wife, is dead, he turns his back on the One true God and goes to his old life of piracy. Charlisse captured by a villainous pirate, soon to escape to then seek out Captain Merrick, her husband, but starts to struggle with her own insecurities.
The capture of Charlisse, she tries to help another lady, Isabel, escape from Kent, while she is struggling to face Captain Merrick when she discovers what he has been up to. Captain Merrick finally realizing being disgusted with his old way, repents, and struggles to get back on the right track, with shocking news about Charlisse still being alive. As in the in "The Redemption" see how the title, "The Reliance", plays out through this second novel to the "Legacy of the King's Pirate". Watch how Charlisse's faith grows, where she can only rely on the Lord, and Captain Merrick being dependent on the Lord and leave it in His hands. "The Reliance" has truly been a hard book to set aside, where I want to know how things are going to turn out in the end. Definitely going to read this novel again!

This was a good continuation of Charlisse and Merrick's story. When Charlisse is kidnapped by an old enemy of both her's and Merrick's, named Kent, Merrick believes that she has died. Charlisse is forced to take matters into her own hands and keep her, another young lady named Isabel, and her unborn baby safe. This was another great book of MaryLu Tyndall's! I couldn't wait to reach the end to find out what would happen to these familiar, realistic characters. Merrick and Charlisse defiantly each have their own faults that are visible in this book, which makes them even more believable. This was an awesome book and I certainly can't wait to read the next one in the series!

Once again, this is another book by MaryLu Tyndall that I have, and will read over and over again. I can't get enough of her books. Read them in order though, or some things wont make sense!!!
Throughout this book I bawled my eyes out! It is so heartbreaking and wrenching that you almost feel like putting the book down. Several times I almost threw the book away, but there was this sense that God would work through the characters. I absolutely loved this book and the characters. They were very realistic and not some cardboard people trying to act and sword fight. I literally saw it all happening and everytime something bad happened I would gasp and everyone around me would look at me weird. Honestly, one of the best books.
