The Black is the fastest horse in America, and Alec Ramsay is preparing him for a big race. Suddenly there comes a new challenger: the Island Stallion, Flame! An unproven racer, Flame can run like the wind. And his jockey, Steve Duncan, knows that they will give the Black and Alec the race of their lives. The Black and Flame come face to face for the second time, this time on the racetrack. Once again, Walter Farley presents a racing story so exciting, readers will be on the edge of their seats until the fastest horse crosses the finish line.

I expected this book to be much more exciting and fast paced then it was. The description of the book makes it sound like a big match race against Flame and The Black but I was rather disappointed with the way Farley wrote it. For one thing in previous books Flame is a killer of other stallions but in this book he's suddenly tame. I did get a bit bored and the book didn't hold my attention as well as say, The Black Stallion Revolts. Overall I'd say that this book is pretty good, but not my favorite.
