It was so good to finally, at long last, read this book by Jen. I was amazed when I started it one afternoon how easy it was to get into and how hard it was to put down! As the author herself told me, it’s a heavier sadder story than the first book in the series, Heart’s Journey Home. But, despite that, it was well-worth the time I spent reading it! I found myself totally empathizing with the main women of the story, Elizabeth and Amy. Though they were vastly different from each other in many ways, and though I have experienced very little of what they have/had gone through, I still was deeply entwined with them through their stories. It sounds weird, but I don’t know how else to put it! I got so exasperated with some of the characters sometimes – that’s the sign of a great book. I’ll definitely be keeping this one! It has a strong, but not over-bearing, Christian message, and I guarantee it will encourage and also challenge you. It deals with some tough issues in amazing ways. It was a delight to meet up with characters I grew to know and love in HJH. I thought it was a wonderful book!

It showed the two very different sides of the story. The struggles both women were going through. It didnt leave me feeling like I needed to choose a side. You simply here their stories and can find relatable situations in both women.

The beauty of The Hearts Lullaby comes in one powerful, overriding message: discover your roots, and embrace your wings. In this second installment of the Harvest Bay series, Jen Stephens crafts a moving journey of discovery, redemption and faith-affirming love.
Former military medic who served in Iraq, Amy Beauregard arrives in Harvest Bay, Ohio spiritually wounded, bitter, and pregnant as the result of a horrific episode of rape. Accompanying her is her deaf son, Dominick, the product of a college-aged spring-fling in Daytona Beach, Florida with Elijah Truman, who is now married to Elizabeth—a woman desperate to become a mother.
Miracles tie connective strings through the course of this novel—none of the least of which is the way Elizabeth and Amy turn initial hostility into understanding. Another wonderful aspect of the novel is the way Owen Sullivan draws Amy into his life, and into the small-town community that is Harvest Bay. In return for a place to stay, Owen’s family gives Amy charge over an injured horse who, in many ways, reflects the struggles, and hope, of Amy herself. Meanwhile, Elizabeth maintains a quest to give Elijah the child for which they both dream—a quest that leads her into questionable decisions that will test her faith, and her marriage. Through it all, it seems Amy holds the key to a number of miracles that are set to take place in Harvest Bay—though always in a manner that is unexpected and thought provoking.
Spiritual mentoring, tender patience with the healing process, commitment in love and marriage, and the sacredness of life, all paint vivid brushstrokes along the storyline of The Heart’s Lullaby. After reading this story I look forward to reading The Heart’s Journey Home.
