Kregel Publications Forbidden

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the friendship between Mennonite Annie Penner and Japanese American Donald Nakamura seems doomed by prejudice and clashing cultures. Donald becomes a decorated hero, and when the war ends, their romance doesn't. Though everything seems to work against them---their families, a scandalized community, the laws of California---God, the Author of love, writes in mysterious ways. 320 pages, softcover from Kregel.

This is the best book I've read in a long time. Wilma Wall brings alive this story of forbidden love in a post-WWII world of suspicion and prejudice. Annie Penner, a young German Mennonite woman, and Donald Nakamura, a Japanese American Baptist are trying to find their way to each other in a socity that deems their love illegal. I highly recommend Forbidden.
