Fixed Point Foundation The God Delusion Debate

In 2006, world-renowned atheist and scientist Professor Richard Dawkins published his world-wide best-seller The God Delusion, an all-out assault on religion in general and Christianity in particular. In it, Dawkins asserts that such belief is nothing short of delusional.

One year later, two of the greatest minds in the science-religion debate met to put those assertions to the test.

This DVD was filmed on October 3, 2007 before a sold-out crowd at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. This debate pits Dawkins against his Oxford University colleague Professor John Lennox, who is both a scientist and a Christian theologian. Dawkins debates his views as expressed in The God Delusion and their validity over and against the Christian faith. The debate generated international attention. Approx. 112 minutes.

Unfortunately the format for the "debate" was one-sided, allowing John to critique Dawkins without an avenue for Dawkins to respond.
Dawkins pointed this out early-on, and the format eased up.
John's reasoning was sound. Dawkins was very emotional and feelings-based. I much prefer listening to Hitchens debate.

Whether you're a Christian or not, this is a very informative and compelling exchange from two very articulate men defending opposing points of view. The Bible teaches us to be prepared to defend our faith and understanding opposing views is part of that. For me, I saw in the exchange where the atheistic views falls short and contradicts itself. Both men deserve a metal for delivering such a comprehensive and professional debate.

Excellent debate between professors Dawkins and Lennox. This one is for the serious and advanced students of the evolution/creation debate.
The debate is particularly about Richard Dawkins' book "The God delusion" versus christianity. John Lennox demonstrates real well the misconceptions of Richard Dawkins concerning his knowledge of the christian faith and exposes his false presumptions concerning his "atheistic faith". Dawkins argues that religion could justify a well reasoned man to commit horrible crimes such as historic events like the crusades, the inquisition, the 911 attacks, terrorism, etc.
While this statement is often true, Lennox, on the other side, stipulates that the contrary is also true since many attrocities in history are attributed to atheists (Staline, Lennine, etc.). About the crusades and every thing else bad christianity is linked to, Lennox explains that those who do those things are actually disobeying Jesus Christ's commands, therefore it cannot be blamed on christianity.
If we remove God from the scene, anything can happen since men make their own rules according to their own judgement, beliefs and sometimes low morality. If an atheist lies or steals or even murders without getting caught, according to his conception of life and after-life (because there is any), there are no ultimate consequences in his mind. One could live his life according to this motto : "Do what thou wilt." If it feels good, do it!
Here's what the Bible says about it:
Judge 17:6 " In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
"
When there is no king or ruler, every man does whatever he wants. God is our ruler.
Proverbs 3:7 "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil."
Proverbs 21:2 "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. "
In other words, don't put your trust into your own heart or judgements since you don't have the authority to decide what is right or what is wrong, nor the ability to always make wise decisions. Let the Lord God be your King since He is the Almighty Creator of all things and knows all. God gave us life's instruction book: the Bible. Nobody knows better than the univers' author himself Jesus Christ how this world truely works. Follow Jesus daily on the narrow path. Evolution is just another track on the wide path.
With this DVD, you'll understand this is no longer the science versus religion debate but faith versus faith.
Praise the Lord!
