The Divinity Code is an excellent book to increase ones understanding of dreams and dream interpretation. I have read a couple of books on the subject and this is by far the most comprehensive. The authors go into great detail about why we struggle with visions and dreams and what God has for us through dreams is grounded in scripture. This is a great resource for beginner and experienced interpreters.

The question is why would God stop doing something that scripture clearly states He will do? He hasn't stopped. We have stopped seeing dreams as a way for God to communicate with us. Everyone receives dreams but it depends on whether the "spirit person" is switched on. The authors do say that visions are only for believers, and dreams can bring warning, correction and prophesy. They also warn against the occult and ways that the enemy will try to use truth to pull you away from what God has for you.

There isn't a step by step process to interpreting dreams however, you are encouraged to practice and stay grounded in scripture. There is an extensive metaphor dictionary with scripture references for each. Names and numbers are also included. There is an appendix with samples of dreams and interpretations. You will return to this book continually for reference.

The Divinity Code to Understanding Your Dreams and Visions is an excellent book! Having read many books on dreams and visions I can say that this one is outstanding for many reasons. The two writers work humbly together and teach us the art of interpreting God's language but still each one displays his own spiritual character. They offer us basic teachings of the bible about dreams and visions but still you can feel the depth of their studies on the matter and an expectation arises in your heart to see more books from them that would get us deeper. Any reader can read this book because it is written in many levels of understanding. Either you believe in God or not, either you believe in dreams or not, you can still read it and enjoy its richness in the paradigms and interpretations of dreams and visions. To go further, I suggest that you get prepared to see manifestations of the kingdom of God while you read it. The book has been backed up with so much prayer that it is impossible not to feel the Holy Spirit hovering over it. The most important fact for me was their belief that God is in control of all dreams no matter the source. He is sovereign. This is a book that everybody should buy and keep next to his bed for the rest of his life. Amazing book!

Great tool, but not a formula

The Bible offers many examples of supernatural communication through dreams and he is the same yesterday, today and forever. God still speaks to us in dreams. Sometimes dreams are literal but more often, dreams are parables which need interpretation. Spiritual dreams (dreams that come from God) need a spiritual interpretation. Many books are published which offer interpretation formulas but they are based on natural knowledge. You cannot interpret a spiritual dream with natural knowledge or wisdom, it requires spiritual knowledge.

"We cannot afford to be like the Pharisees and teachers of the law who sat insensitively in the presence of Jesus inwardly criticizing His every word and consequently failing to receive what God had for them even though, 'the power of the Lord was present to heal them.' If that is our attitude, then it will be someone else who will break through the roof we have placed ourselves under and by faith grab a hold of what God had originally planned for us." ~pg.27

The Divinity Code is divided into three sections. The first section lays the foundation for why and how God speaks to us in dreams. The second section is examples of 101 short dreams and their interpretation. The third section is a dictionary of common symbols used in dreams and their possible meaning, along with a dictionary of names and places.

The book is well written, which makes it flow and easy to read. Each of the 10 chapters in the first section is grouped according to topic/theme and the ideas are fully explained; the reader is left with a confidence they have grasped and understood what is being communicated. The best feature is the chapter summary, offered in point form. This makes referencing back to the book quick and easy. The downside could be some readers might only use the "Coles notes" and miss substantiating information.

In my initial reading I didn't value the inclusion of the 101 dreams and their interpretations. What I found after putting the principles they teach in the book into practice on mine and my friends' dreams, I didn't know if I was on the mark or not. I returned to the book and began reading the dream examples and before I read the interpretation, I would ask the Holy Spirit for help to interpret and then 'test' my interpretation against the one given in the book. In this way, I found the examples very helpful to be able to test whether I had a gift for interpretation.

The dictionary of terms and symbols is probably the reason most people will be attracted to the book because it is human nature nature to want a formula so it can be replicated again and again. I have benefitted from meeting Adrian and Adam in an intimate church setting and I am aware they believe and teach all interpretation comes from the Holy Spirit and each of them stress, quite emphatically, to read the first section before using the dictionary. Otherwise, there is a danger to make interpretations with our own wisdom using the dictionary and not rely on the Holy Spirit. Adrian and Adam teach these are principles and tools but not a formula.

The dictionary is the most comprehensive one I have seen on the subject of spiritual dream interpretation. Hundreds of terms and symbols are included, often with multiple meanings and each with a Biblical reference. For example (from the book):

Mother: (1) the church; (2) the Holy Spirit; (3) natural mother; (4) spiritual mother; (5) heavenly Jerusalem; (6) Israel; (7) the past; (8) nurturer; (9) law/legalism

    (1) Eph 5:25, 31-32; (2) Gal 4:29b; (3) 2 Tim 1:5; (4) Gal 4:19; (5) Rev 21:2; (6) Rev 12:1-2; (7) Job 21:8; (8) Song 8:1, Is 49:23; (9) Prov 1:8, 6:20

Without the Holy Spirit to direct the interpretation, the choice for this one symbol in a dream that probably has many symbols is overwhelming and can certainly lead to misinterpretation.

Along with turning spiritual interpretation into a formula, having such an extensive dictionary available another downside could be that it bogs down the dreamer and interpreter in details by looking up each and every aspect of the dream. When Jesus told parables, they were used to communicate large ideas. It's important to look at the whole, rather than focus on every detail and without the discernment of the Holy Spirit, you may not know which details are not important and which ones to pay attention to.

Overall, I give this book an 'A' grade because the information is easy to read, understand and put into practice. There is the possibility of abuse of the information by using it as a formula, however, Adrian and Adam have been faithful the Word of God and have provided a fantastic tool to aid in spiritual dream interpretation.

Do you really want to hear what God is saying to you? If you really want to hear Him, this book is a superb tool to help "learn His language" through your dreams! I've used it to help interpret the symbolism in my own dreams. Besides hearing God speak to me daily, He speaks at night as well through dreams. Add this to your library to help you "hear" what God is saying! This book is a true blessing!
