Carol WalczakGlendale AZAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This helps to understand the ways of the AmishDecember 28, 2012Carol WalczakGlendale AZAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Rachel's Secret, Riverhaven Years Series #1.I'm just finishing book 1 and had decided early on to also order books 2 and 3 as I have a few friends who grew up Amish and are now Mennonite...precious people! This book helps anyone understand the trials and misunderstandings between the Amish and the 'English'. I thoroughly enjoyed this 1st book, and am on the last chapter and would advise readers to keep ordering BJ Hoff books. She's a favorite author for myself and my friends.

Jeannie DonaldsonStatesboro, GAAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderfully Romantic!October 19, 2012Jeannie DonaldsonStatesboro, GAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Rachel's Secret, Riverhaven Years Series #1.This is the first book I have ever read by BJ Hoff, so I came to this book with no expectations. I am well pleased with her style of writing. It is at a very good price right now, so I feel I got a real deal! The cover is nice an sturdy as are the pages. The print is very easy to read.
Now, to the story... I happen to have several Old Order Amish friends, so I am pretty certain that some of the events depicted in this story are very unlikely to have occurred. This should not be understood to be an actual way that the Amish live, though much of the details are correct. But, then it's fiction, so it's OK, and I enjoyed it immensely. It has good Christian content, and it's always a blessing to read a sweet love story that doesn't include sex and bad language. There are two sets of "sweethearts" in this, which is evident almost from the first few chapters (Not a lot of surprises). However, it was a good story, I really liked the characters, and I am looking forward to Book 2 in this trilogy.
I recommend it for adult readers. -
