First in the Rocky Mountain Memories Series, "Where the Wild Rose Blooms" is set in Colorado Territory in the 1870's - the perfect setting for an historical romance. I fell in love with the Fontaine family and their full, but simple way of life - hard work, deep friendships and lots of love and fun. The story focuses on two of the five sisters - Eddie and Jackie. It was nice to follow Eddie and Robert (such a too-good-to-be-true hero) past their wedding, where so many stories stop, to gain insight into their married life. Jackie's courtship with Clayton was much more complicated, but I enjoyed seeing God's relentless pursuit of Jackie, and Clayton's faithfulness in praying for her. I had to read the next in the series straight away to find out more in their stories. Highly recommended.
I read this book when it first came out. I've also read it many times since then. Now that I am all grown up and happily married, I appreciate it even more. Rather than being a romance about a single couple, you follow the lives of two sisters, Eddie and Jackie, and the men they fall in love with. With plot twists and surprises, you won't want to put this book down.
