B&H Books The Five Smooth Stones: Essential Principles for Biblical Ministry

Dr. McQuilkin, president emeritus of Columbia International University, was driven to find a place where theology and best practices in ministry engaged. He found five major doctrinal principles that play a major role in how ministry is conducted: the Bible as authority, a correctly aligned church body, the power of the Holy Spirit, the plan of redemption proclaimed, and the lordship of Christ lived out in the leadership. After a number of years surveying an international array of churches he found that these five principles defined the ministries that were successful. Learn how to put these principles into practice at your church.

Mr. McQuilkin's thoroughness and openness to what the Bible actually says and his ability to discern between being dogmatic and sincerely applying Biblical principles is evident in this book as it is in other books by him and I find it very helpful to my thinking - and hopefully actions.

I was first introduced to these principles when a student at Columbia International University where Robertson McQuilkin was President and taught a course from which "The Five Smooth Stones" was based. These principles have guided me in ministry as a missionary, deacon, elder, and small group coach in the local church. I believe anyone involved in Christian ministry should use this book and implement it's principles!

I have walked with Robertson the past 3 years while he worked on this book. He has taught this material at Columbia Intl University www.ciu.edu while he was President and now is teaching it again to our D.Min. students. This book fills a critical gap as a very practical guide to forming HOW ministry is done with careful attention to biblical authority and the purposes God has for the church.
