When I received this book, I was excited to start it and, once I had, it was extremely difficult to put down!
Following footsteps of Elle Philips, a politicians daughter and campaign manager, we she her first real interaction with Mark Denton in the worst-case scenario possible, a bank robbery. When Denton is hired to protect Elle, the two are thrown into one dire circumstance after another. This time together with Denton is exactly what Elle is not looking for - close proximity with a handsome man.
Get ready for an action packed, adrenaline laced ride with Elle and Denton! No only will you be kept guessing until the end, you will also find yourself drawn to the complex characters Christy has created in Elle and Denton. They come alive and their story will compel you just as the robbers plot will keep you guessing to the very end.
It's not very often that you can find a book that keeps surprising you, but Key Witness is that book! You won't be able to put this down and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense laced with sweet romance.
*** I received a free copy of this book for review purposes, but was under no obligation to read the book or post a review. I do so under my own motivation and the opinions I have expressed in this review are honest and entirely my own.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, this book is well written and well worth your time to read. Key Witness is the first of Christy Barritt's Security Experts series with Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense.
Elle Phillips watches in horror as a bank robbery becomes an apparently senseless murder case as well. Her quick thinking in using the robber's cell phone brings the police, but it also seems to make her the target of further incidences.
Her wealthy father, Senator Phillips, hires another witness to the robbery/murder to safeguard his precious daughter, Mark Denton, a security expert.
Sparks fly--between Mark and Elle, that is. Suspicions and deadly encounters abound.
Elle Philips and Mark Denton star in this brilliant suspense story. She is the daughter of a wealthy politician, he a security contractor and former Navy SEAL. Christy Barritt writes perfect suspense. This book will keep you on your toes, even if you’re not trying to figure out who the bad guy is. Every page is riveted with twists and turns and that kept me turning pages. As the back cover reads, it’s “a deadly game of cat and mouse.”
Elle Phillips is doing her normal weekly bank visit when things go terribly wrong. There are two masked men yelling and waving guns and before they can be stopped they shoot one of the bank tellers. When Elle sees one of the robbers has unknowingly dropped his cell phone she takes a risk by grabbing it and dialing 911. When the lead robber realizes what she has done he threatens to kill her as he is running away.
Mark Denton, a former Navy Seal works for Iron, Inc. an elite paramilitary security firm who hires only the best of the best. There are former FBI, CIA, and Special Ops along with other members of law enforcement. Denton was at the bank that day when the robbers showed up. But he wasn’t the one to save the day; it was the beautiful young woman he had previously seen at the bank.
When Sen. Phillips comes to pick up Elle from the police station where she is giving her statement, he recognizes Denton from a previous security job so he asks Denton he will be willing to be Elle’s bodyguard. Guarding a former beauty queen with brains instead of fluff, how could he possibly say no?
When Elle starts getting threatening texts and phone calls it seems the bank robbers have found her. But when people around her are being killed Denton knows that this goes way beyond a mere bank robbery gone wrong. Will he figure out who is behind all the killings before they get the one thing Denton cannot part with…ELLE??
In this chilling suspense filled Love Inspired novel Christy proves what an exceptional writer she is. This is a rock-your world ride that will have you guessing until the very end who the evil mastermind is behind this terrifying plot against the beautiful Elle Phillips. This is the first book I have read in Christy’s Security Experts Series, but after reading this I went back and bought the first one too. Thanks Christy for creating a terrific book that was impossible to put down.

Review 6 for Key Witness
A great blend of mystery, suspense, and romance
Date:February 2, 2013
What common ground can Ellie Philips, manager of her father's senatorial campaign, find with Mark Denton, a former Navy Seal assigned to protect Ellie when threats are made after she witnesses a bank robbery? Burned by a former fiancé, Ellie sees Mark as a risk taker, a man she could perhaps trust with her safety, if that was his job, but never with her heart. As a series of people die, each one closer to Ellie and each death leaving insufficient clues, can even an expert like Mark keep Ellie alive? Christy Barritt does a masterful job of ratcheting up the suspense, both the danger and the romantic tension, as she guides the story through the twists and turns of a four-dimensional maze that leaves the reader guessing until the very end. In keeping with the romantic-suspense genre, the thriller-level action takes place mostly off stage. But there is plenty on stage to keep the reader turning the pages or pressing the forward button on their e-reader.
Key Witness by Christy Barrit is a pure roller coaster ride of fear. I didn't get to take a breath or break until the end of chapter ten. I took few minutes off and came right back to find out what was going to happen next.
Chapter 11 picked up with more action and there were only few places to relax--sort of. Even when Elle Philips--the main character is relaxing in her home you know she's not safe.
There were a few times I wanted to yell--don't do that! Of course Elle did things anyway and I couldn't look away.
