I used to consider Peretti's "Cooper Kids Adventure Books" my absolute favorite book series when I was about 12-14, and listed Frank Peretti high on my list of favorite authors. Then I went back and read them later, and decided they were weird, and decided maybe I didn't like Peretti's books all that much. Then I read Prophet, (after hearing my sister rave about how good it was) and am again a fan. "Prophet" is an extremely well-written, engaging, exciting, edge-of-your-seat, can't-stop-turning-pages story with a purpose: to reveal the Truth that lies behind the abortion industry and the liberal media. My only hesitation in recommending this book is that, in portraying the true situations he is presenting, he goes into realistic detail that, while far from lewd, is probably something you'd be embarrassed to read aloud in a group. There is also a lot of reference to characters using foul language, (again, realistically) although you can rest assured there's not a cuss word to be found from cover to cover. So basically, if your 12 year old (boy, especially) wants to read a Frank Peretti book, hand him a Cooper Kids book. (Make that book 5, "Secret of the Desert Stone.) For older teens and adults, however, "Prophet" is an amazing, informative novel that will make you think, and ignite your passion to protect the lives of the innocent, and stand for the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. "You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free."

I really enjoyed this novel. I am a Frank Peretti fan to the bone. It doesn't have as much action as "This Present Darkness" but it is still great. I can really identify with the John Barrett because I too have wanted to sit on the gifts God has given me. Nevertheless not my will but God's will be done. This book was just great.

Another intense book by Frank Peretti! I found it confusing at times with all the slips between reality and visions, making it a little difficult to understand in parts, but once I got into it, I found it very intriguing. The Prophet will make you think hard about your perception of the Truth, which is, I think, part of what the author intended. All in all a very interesting and powerful book.

Who hasn't been embarrassed by their parents? A great way to start the book. I found the typical spiritual warfare that Peretti writes about conveyed throughout this book. A son seeking his father, and a grandson seeking his father, both looking for who that man really is. All the while the pressures of living life as the world would want you to, rather than the one God has chosen for you.
