Schreiner has produced (in my opinion) a fantastic volume dealing with the message of Romans. Much in the work is to be appreciated:
1) He provides an overarching view of each passage, summarizing it as a whole before breaking it down. This allows us to see the big picture as well as the pieces that make it up.
2) He approaches the text from a conservative standpoint, assuming that Paul intended to write a consistent message. In doing so, he shows that one doesn't need to bend over backwards to see a coherency in Paul's thought.
3) He interacts with an overwhelming number of scholarly commentaries on Romans, never afraid to explain opposing views and interact with them.

This is an ecxellent book and the author does an in-depth review of Paul's theology and a very good analysis using a textual criticism and surperb explanation of the original Greek language.

Excellent reference and footnotes. Rambles from the point of discussion occasionally--overall a valuable reference book. Recommend it for ones library.

Thomas Schriener's Romans commentary is the best I have ever used. This commentary is both readable and scholarly. It is great for preaching, exegetical study, scholarly use, and bible study. I highly reccommendit to pastors and seminary students.

This is the only commentary on Romans that will see a 5 from me, in all liklihood. Dr. Schreiner deftly combines his knowledge of Greek, his interaction with the scholarly community, and yet maintains a readable text throughout with only minor exceptions. He delves deeply into the meaning of the text, often pursuing seemingly random bits of information or useless arguments, but then he goes on to show WHY it was an important issue to cover. While I do tend to disagree with Dr. Schreiner on some of the issues within Romans, I appreciate his handling of the text more than any other exegete I have run across. This is the only Romans commetary I would recommend above Dunn, Moo, and the masterpiece of Cranfield.

This is, in several ways, a unique commentary. First, it is a goldmine for Greek students wanting technical exegesis in Romans. Second, it is extraorinarily lucid and, therefore, accessible to those with little or even no working knowledge of Greek. Third, the format is easy to manage. Finally, Dr. Schreiner interacts with of all the major commentaries on Romans. This is simply one of the finest commentaries available on Romans.
