Singapore Math's *Primary Math, Standards Edition* series features the Concrete> Pictorial> Abstract approach. Students begin by learning through concrete and pictorial means before moving into abstract thought and development, which encourages an active thinking process, communication of mathematical ideas, and problem solving. The spiral approach encourages mastery through the modeling method, which helps students to visualize problems as they work on specific skills.

Primary Mathematics, Standards Edition Book 4B covers decimals; the four operations of decimals; congruent and symmetric figures; Coordinate Graphs and Changes in Quantities; Data Analysis and Probability; Measures and Volume. 160 full-color pages with index and glossary, softcover. Grades 4-5.

Adapted from Singapore Math's *Primary Mathematics* series, these workbooks have been aligned with the Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools. *Standard Edition* books differ in that they include units on probability and data analysis, as well as negative numbers and coordinate graphs. These skills are not taught in the Primary U.S. Edition.

These non-consumable textbooks are meant to be completed with adult supervision and teaching. Featuring the learning tasks, practice and review problems, the sold-separately Primary Mathematics Standards Edition Workbook 4B is designed to be used alongside this text for necessary practice.

**Please note:** The Primary Mathematics Standards Edition resources **cannot** be used interchangeably with the Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition resources. Answers are in the sold-separately Primary Mathematics Standards Edition Home Instructor's Guide 4B.

Singapore Math provides a solid math curriculum combining skills with problem solving activities. The problem solving is better than every other curriculum I have tried because it is not one type of problem repeated with different numbers. Strategies for approaching problems are taught.

This standards edition provides a balance of topics calculations, geometry, and using data.

This textbook is used with a matching workbook. Singapore Math doesn't have too much skill drill, so if a student needs more practice, I recommend also getting the Extra Practice book.
