My First Handy Bible: Timeless Bible Stories for Toddlers, written by Cecilie Olesen and illustrated by Gustavo Mazali, provides an overview of the Bible's most popular stories from Genesis to Revelation. Each story is summarized in a few sentences. Just enough of the story is introduced that younger readers can easily understand without being confused by details. The Biblical reference for each story is given on the page so that older children and their parents can explore the story more deeply if they desire to do so. Bright, sharp colors effectively catch the attention of children and solid-board style construction provides durability needed by toddlers.
I enjoyed reading My First Handy Bible: Timeless Bible Stories for Toddlers to my five month old. The book is rated for ages one to three and my child didn't have the ability to comprehend the stories, but the illustrations did catch her attention. I liked how the Bible reference for each story is included on the same page as this could facilitate further discussion, especially with an older toddler. I was pleasantly surprised that so many stories were included. The latch that holds the book shut and the handle for carrying it are great. Even at this age, my daughter was able to grasp and touch different parts of the book. Also, the sturdiness of this book is great for a child that doesn't yet understand that pages are made to stay in a book. :)

First this is darling, right sized Bible for little hands. They cannot hurt it, it is nice and chunky. The cover is full of bright colors to draw them in. It has a bright yellow clasp and handle ...to drag it around!! The pages are thick cardboard, with wonderfully illustrated little stories. You are able to hold the little one on your lap and they can point and hold the book as you share the verses. What a great gift this would make some happy little one.

Bright yellow handle, a board cover that is designed for a toddler/or baby; "My First Handy Bible" is perfect for the youngest members in the home or as a "First Bible" gift for that youngster in your life.
Durability is what is impressive with the bible, followed with the bright illustrations, that is enough to keep the kid(s) attention.
Composed of simple sentences,"My First Handy Bible" really does make for a good first time bible for the little ones.
Covering all 66 books of the bibles, but covering with references for the parents to look up if the child (though with the age group, not as likely) to go over deeper with the child,"My First Handy Bible" has all the hallmarks for a "fun" good first time bible for young children; It gives them something to call their own and a way to keep them busy while at church or in the backseat of the vehicle.
For parents looking for a good beginner bible for toddlers and just for the babies to "have", this is highly recommended to give as a gift.
"My First Handy Bible" does what it needs to do; It gets the attention of the younger children, its colorful, it lets them have something that is for them to have and call their own, and just really have the winning combination that makes this a good first bible.

My children quite enjoyed reading the stories from "My First Handy Bible", from the colourful and interesting illustrations to the short stories that recap many popular stories from the Old and New Testament of the Bible. As a parent, I really appreciated how each short story provided the appropriate Bible reference, allowing me to look up the full story in the Bible to share further details about the story when my children were especially interested in doing so. The book itself is a very sturdy board book, so that it will withstand rough handling by little hands, and my son especially liked being able to carry the book around by its handle. The stories themselves, while simply written, do a good job of usually capturing the essence of the story, which is hard to do with only a few lines!
I strongly recommend this version of the Bible for little ones being introduced to the Bible, and award it 4 out of 5 stars.

Opening with Creation and closing with the promise of happiness in heaven, My First Handy Bible presents 23 micro-Bible stories in chronological order over a total of 61 pages.
These brief Bible story re-tellings for toddlers range from three to five sentences in length in most cases and come with a verse reference if you’d like to dig deeper into the event being retold with your children.
I absolutely ADORE the design of this first Bible storybook – it comes with a sturdy, bright plastic handle, a clip to hold the pages closed, and sturdy board book pages. We’ve been stuffing this book into our church bag every Sunday for our little ones to flip through during the service.
We’ve also read it together as a family where I had an enthralled audience of my 22 month-old, four-year-old, and six-year-old (who would often beg me to keep reading). The very short stories are well suited for tiny attention spans, and we’d often read more than one at a time.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t keen on the artwork throughout – characters who should be portrayed as adults were instead shown as preschoolers and young children (though some were shown at appropriate ages as well). Adam and Eve were tiny children, and Joseph was shown as a young lad even during his time in his position of power in Egypt for example. Jesus is depicted as a fairly typical storybook Jesus – a man with straight, long hair.
That aside, all of our girls have really enjoyed this storybook Bible, its concise stories and illustrations featuring young children.
