Thomas Nelson Contemplating the Cross: A 40 Day Pilgrimage of Prayer - eBook

Contemplating the Cross is a 40-day personal pilgrimage, an interactive journey that can make the central event of human history take root within your soul. Prepare to be profoundly changed as you walk with Christ through His final hours---in the moonlit garden, down the dusty Via Dolorosa, under Golgotha's blazing sun and terrifying darkness.

With daily exercises designed to lead you into a new depth of understanding, Rhodes helps you experience for yourself the Passion narratives---the sights, sounds, smells, and emotional weight of the events that took place two thousand years ago.

In these pages, you'll find scriptures, meditations, and reflective questions along with an introduction to lectio divina, the centuries-old art of slowly, contemplatively praying God's Word. More encompassing than a devotional, Contemplating the Cross will transform the way you view the cross as you accept the Father's invitation to kneel in its shadow.

Tricia McCary Rhodes is the author of four books on the subject of prayer and the cross. In 1981, she and her husband, Joe, started New Hope Church in San Diego. The mother of two sons and grandmother of two, Tricia believes God's call on her life is to help others deepen their intimacy with Christ.

I purchased extra copies of this book to give to friends and family members. The selected readings in your daily Lenton devotions from this author led me to the purchase. I have not read the book yet and am keeping it for next year's use. The readings you provided really spoke to me and I look forward to reading the entire book.

I was looking for a book of Lenten readings and this fit my needs. Each reading contains Bible verses as well as 3 sections: Read,Reflect and Respond. I read 1 each day and and this book is a perfect addition to my other Lenten studies.

I can tell you with absolute confidence that is not a 'new age', unless you want to define 'new age' as a new or renewed scrutiny into the heart and experience our Savior's last week on this earth. Often the Cross is all about you and me, and as awesome as the truth is that Christ came to set us free and draw us back into an intimate relationship with the Father, we miss His glory if we do not take time to comprehend His pain. Having read this book each year for the past four years as my meditation during the 40 days prior to Easter, I can affirm that this is a book no soul-bought believer would want to pass up. It will bring you to a New Age of discovery of Jesus' love and passion that will overwhelm you and impact your life until you see Him face to face in all His glory.

With so many devotionals that focus on YOU, this one is a wecome change since it focuses on JESUS! It makes you think real hard about what He did for us. It makes us wish we could have comforted Him. It's so good I didn't want to put it down.

Disguised as biblical truth, the author leads and encourages the reader into breathing techniques, visions through imagination, and narrative content to conjure and worship ones own Jesus. Sound like New Age? Yes, indeed. Beware this reading.
