I read this book because I wanted to understand why a clearly intelligent person like Dr. Dawkins would reject the possibility of God. Ive read that while we dont choose when or where we are born, if we have abilities or disabilities or advantages or disadvantages, every one of us has a mind capable of knowing God, a heart to love him and a will to choose him. In Chapter 7, Ward makes excuses for Dr. Dawkins disbelief saying that Dawkins is just experiencing a bout of intellectual myopia. I also found Wards arguments from personal experience disturbing. While he believes that God is a God of Supreme Love, he doesnt seem to acknowledge that Gods other attributes are equally important: that God is knowable, independent, unchangeable, eternal, all-powerful, omnipresent, all-knowing, all-wise, trustworthy, truthful, good, holy, righteous and just. Ward also wonders about evil and if a good God could not create a Universe without creating some evil? The author Paul Little said that God permitted, but did not direct the entrance of sin into the world; he allowed the possibility of evil and man actualized it. Much of the suffering in the world can be traced directly to the choices men and women have made. It seems that Ward sees Jesus Christ as a moral person who exemplified love by his death on the cross. Does he believe Christs claim of deity? Ward believes that man is basically good. Does that mean we dont need to accept the sacrificial gift of Christs death on the cross as payment for our sins and our salvation? What about our justification and adoption into Gods family? This book wouldnt convince me that there is a God if I was an atheist or a skeptic. Instead, read The Reason for God by Tim Keller or the Know Why You Believe and Know What You Believe books by Paul Little to learn about a personal, knowable God and true Christianity.
