I bought myself this Bible a few years ago and finally God's word was opened up to me. I was able to understand the messages God had for me. I have several other translations on hand, but always turn to the Message Bible to get a full understanding of the scripture. I gave one to my friend and we enjoy reading to each other out of it.

I order this Bible so that I could read through the Bible in a year in a different translation. I love the translation, the feel of the "leather", and the tan color. I was a little shocked that the print was so small. Fortunately I have 20/20 vision but even with that it is a little hard to read. Not giving it up because it is such an interesting read.

The reason I gave this such low scores is that the quality of translation is nill, The value as a Bible is nill, and the expectations of it being God's Word are nill. It is not a Bible. It is one man's paraphrase of the Bible. He was not divinely inspired to do what he did. It should be avoided. Instead you should buy an NASB, ESV, KJV, or NKJV.

I rather enjoyed reading The Message.
I like the layout and the set up for the text And most passages read very nicely. It was great for casual reading.
However, Exodus 34 has a huge error that contradicts every translation of the Bible I can get my hands on. The Message claims this:
(The Message) God spoke to Moses: "Cut out two tablets of stone just like the originals and engrave on them the words that were on the original tablets you smashed. -Exodus 34:1
However this doesn't line up with any version of the Bible. There is something very important that it'e missing. Check out these 2 highly trusted translations below:
(ESV) The Lord said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke...."
(NASB) Now the LORD said to Moses, “Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered...."
"I will" is what is missing. Thats huge. This means that God himself wrote on the tablets, not Moses like The Message implies. How this error has been able to stay in the Message after all these years and all the revisions that it's had is beyond me. This is the only real issue that I have with it so far.
Please try to understand that The Message is a reading Bible, It is not a Study Bible, just as Eugene H. Peterson himself writes in the Preface of this book in the last paragraph on page 8.
Read it and enjoy it, but please don't study it. Use a study Bible for that purpose instead.

We gave these to our Confirmation Class, and they are loving them. The Message paraphrase makes the Bible more accessible, and they like the extra study guide additions, as well as the fresh look of the Bible.

I really like the format of this Bible with an introduction to each of the Books. Perhaps because I'm older and may be having some eyesight dimming, the "greyed" passages are difficult for me to read. Otherwise, I am delighted with the binding, price and especially with The Message.

I bought this bible for my grandson. He liked it very much. The quality was very good, the only thing I noticed was that the print was very small. My grandson liked it, but for older eyes I think the print is too small and to get the large print.

The print font size is too small, I have to use a magnifier to read. This should have been mentioned in the advertisement which should have illustrated font size. This was a worthless purchase!

When I first heard about the Message bible, I was slightly interested. Now that I have one, I can truly say this is an amazing bible. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It is all I thought it would be and then more.
