This is vol. 1 of 2. Both are excellent. Carson is highly readable and understandable and applies his vast insights both as an academic and as a mature Christian to daily scripture readings to give believers a better understanding of the meaning and application of Scripture. Follows the McCheyne Bible reading plan.

Our church is doing a 2 year program of reading through the entire Bible using this book. The book is designed as a companion devotional as you read through the daily selected portions of the Bible. The book is designed to help keep the "big picture" in mind as you read through the entire Bible but can get confused as to the purpose of certain passages. It's already been very helpful.
I'm not the type of person who usually bothers to endorse devotional books, but I have had the opportunity to read FOR THE LOVE OF GOD (vols. 1 and 2) by D.A. Carson and consequently, I've been endorsing it to Christians from all walks who take their relationship with God very seriously. These devotionals attempt to return the focus back to Scripture, not the comments of the devotional writers. It also attempts to give the reader the "bigger picture" of Scripture (i.e. the whole counsel of God), so that one's vision would not be constrained to passages and verses, something that might give the impression that the Bible talks about many unrelated things. This approach clearly sets it apart from many devotionals.
