Weekly Reader Maps Skills for Today Gr 6

Build your students' geographical literacy as they learn all sorts of interesting facts about how to navigate the globe! Specific "use your skills", "map it", and "think it over" exercises systematically have children interpret, interact with, and think critically about maps; "your turn now" projects extend the lesson for idea independent work and enrichment exercises.

Students will engage with specific continent and regional maps, as well as with more advanced map concepts, such as latitude/longitude, map projections, and new types of maps (population, rainfall, endangered rain forest, time zones). Major US cities, South America, Europe, Mediterranean, The Middle East, Russia, and other unique areas are used in examples. Students will answer varied questions that demand interaction and excellent map-reading skills. Colorful exercises will capture students' interests as they move through the book. 46 pages, softcover. Pages are NOT reproducible. Grade 6.

We bought this book to to use the maps for visual aids as part of a social studies project. They worked well. I enjoyed the learning exercises for students to participate in to keep the content interesting and memorable.
