Good Books Second Wife: Stories and Wisdom from Women Who Have Married Widowers

In Second Wife Martha Stahl speaks from personal experience about the preparation needed for those women who are marrying a widower. As a first time wife in her 40s, she encountered situations she had not imagined. "What are the tricks to dating privately in a small community?" "Is premarital counseling a must?" "What do I do with his first wife's things?" and "How do I handle personality quirks?" are just a few of the questions that need answering. In addition to stories from her own life, Martha Stahl also draws from 40 responses to a questionnaire she sent to second wives who share her Christian faith. Paperback.

I was disappointed to find that vast majority of the stories dealt with older women who married men in their 70's or 80's, lived in rural farming communities and reported little to no real problems with the courtship phase. For all those reasons, I found the book to have little relevance to modern times & issues and was overly optimistic about a journey that can be very challenging. However I will say that the chapter headings cover a wide range of insightful topics, the stories are often heartwarming and I appreciated the theme of relying on confirmation from the Lord before proceeding with marriage.
