This is an excellent book and well written. The author holds in a very good balance the emotional and spiritual dimensions of life and gives some practical applications and tools to understand how to sort out the emotional and grow in the Spiritual. Unlike a lot of Evangelicals like myself, the book goes deep into the spiritual Masters of the past and shows us how these important truths are so relevant to the present.

This is not the type of book meant to be read and then set aside. This is a manual for doing life differently in order to grow in Christ-likeness. I found it helpful to read through the entire book first in order to get the larger picture before delving into the depths of the exercises and practices that Scazzero recommends. The greatest benefit will come from personal application and working at one's own speed. But, there is also benefit in discussing the material with others in a small group setting and sharing one's journey of discovery with those who can be supportive during difficult transitions. The author's suggestion to begin with small changes should not be taken lightly. The explanation of Examen in Appendix A, and the sample Daily Office included as Appendix B are both invaluable tools.

Easy to read with great examples to relate to real life. Never realized how many things I do and feel as a result of emotional impact of my life experiences. Take your time and grow through this book :)

Pete Scazzero's book rings with an authenticity that comes from the lessons that failure can teach. He challenges us to face the role that unhealthy emotions play in depriving Christians of honesty, power, and growth. Scazzero not only points to the problem, but provides the tools to make desperately needed changes. I have used his book repeatedly in Bible studies and counseling sessions.
