Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stir the Heart and Warm the Soul is a 296-page collection of personal experience articles, short stories and poems. While there are similarities to the popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Hot Apple Cider has its own unique character and content, with a variety of stories from the lighthearted and humorous to those dealing with serious real-life issues such as the death of a child or spouse, cancer, infertility, loneliness and family conflicts.

All of the authors included in this book are professional members of The Word Guild, an association of more than 325 Canadians who write from a Christian faith perspective. The authors represent more than 20 Christian denominations.

Hot Apple Cider lives up to its promise of 'Stirring the Heart and Warming the Soul.' It's good to read such inspiring words from various and talented, Canadian authors. From the heartfelt emotive sharing from Angelina Faast Vlar, a cancer survivor to a 'true confessions' story of Canada's award winning non-fiction writer, Shiela Wray Gregoire and everything else inbetween, I fell in love with this book. It is the kind of book best read in intervals, for the stories and poetry contained within take the reader on a journey so varied that one minute laughter is the emotion of the moment and next, tears flow like a river. As one reads through the foreward by award winning fiction writer, Janette Oke, the passion for writing becomes evident. The introduction compiled by editors Wendy Nelles and NJ Lindquist sum it up as they write: "There's no way to create Apple Cider except to bruise and crush the fruit. Our Canadian weiters have the scars to prove they've experienced some of life's hard issues and grinding problems. They've been knocked to the ground by stormy winds...and learned that only experiences like these can create the character, insights and deepening of faith that produce rich, tangy writing. Drink deeply from the life-giving words in this book..." This invitation to read Hot Apple Cider has drawn this reader in mightily and I have had the privilege of stepping into the shoes of these great Canadian Authors and have enjoyed the sipping and savoring of Hot Apple Cider. I would highly recommend this book as a gift for those who love to read and for those who want to be inspired and challenged in their daily walk.
