The ESV Study Bible includes more than 20,000 notes, written specifically for the ESV Study Bible. These notes focus especially on understanding the meaning of the text, giving answers to frequently raised questions, and providing theological, historical, and archaeological background—all for the purpose of helping readers to understand the Bible in a deeper way.
The ESV Study Bible also provides a wealth of additional resources. Thus the introductions to each book include essential information about the author, date, and place of writing; an extensive chart of key themes; a summary of how the book fits in with the rest of the biblical storyline; a description of literary features; an outline of the book; and a large full-color map showing the setting of the book.
Another unique feature is the inclusion of over 50 helpful articles on topics such as the authority and truthfulness of the Bible, reading the Bible for application, the Bible in worship and prayer, the reliability of the biblical manuscripts, the relationship between archaeology and the Bible, an overview of biblical theology, and many more.
Other key resources include a system of 80,000 cross references and a concordance (which together facilitate easy location of important words, passages, and biblical themes). I love the ESV Study Bible and all of its resources. However, the print is too small. Even the larger print version is only sized 10.5. If a larger print version was available...it would be perfect.

I was hesitant about the ESV as I am use to the NASB and the NKJV. I am no longer hesitant as this is an excellent version. The additional information is well researched and very useful for Pastors, Evangelists, Chaplains, and students of the Bible.

Love this bible. I was weaned on the king james and still love that as well but, this one has so much more in the way of extra study material. It is thick so it is basically a desktop bible. Love the translation as I prefer as close to a word for word translation as possible. My eyes are not what they used to be but I can read it with my reading glasses without problems. I also purchased this in the smaller paperback version that has almost as much in it has the big version so I can travel with it. It was the slightly imperfect one and my wife and I had to look real hard to find the imperfection so, do not be afraid to purchase that as well for a travel version. LOVE christian book.com!!!

The bible arrived well packed. The quality of the bible met my expecatations. Getting used to the large size and its weight is not easy. A good bible for using at home but not so easy to transport around.

After extensive comparison between study bibles, I bought the Crossway ESV study bible 18 months ago. I have since purchased copies for my daughter, and this one was for my wife. The study notes are extensive, and when an issue is controversial within the evangelical community, all mainstream points of view, along with their arguments and evidence are presented, leaving you to decide which one makes sense.

I like the one line per page format. It's much easier to read than pages cut in half. Lots of helpful notes on every page as well as plenty of maps and artist conception. I really like this Bible and the only thing I'd do differant would be to order a large print addition. The notes are a little smaller print than the main content and sometimes a little hard to read.

This spring my daughter -in- law graduated from college and I got her this Bible and personalized it. She was very moved and loved the personalization. She had been wanting the ESV study Bible. The leather cover in burgundy is very elegant and attractive.

This bible exceeded my expectations in every way. I have two concerns, the gospels are not in red letter and it is pretty thick. Both very minor issues. The introductions to each book are informative with maps and layouts of important sites. There is a wealth of information that is at your fingertips. I have already recommended to others.

We purchased this Bible as a wedding gift for a friend. We're hoping it becomes the 'Family Bible' and is used daily. We realize it has lots of notes, which can make reading it more difficult, but thought the notes would make it more relevant to their lives in the 2010's.

Like a great coach, this study Bible motivates me to study the Word of God. I've begun reading in Isaiah and the study notes help me understand the deep and glorious meaning of the book. Like looking into heaven and seeing Christ it comes more alive! It inspires me to compare to Believers Bible Commentary and Matthew Henry commentary (good companions). I have had a NASB Ryrie Study Bible for years and switching to the ESV Study Bible is like fresh new footnote comments to consider. The ESV is not as choppy as the NASB sentence structure and it often reminds me of KJV/NKJV I used as a child. It's enjoyable to read for daily devotions. The articles in the back are also very good and useful and inspiring to compare to other thoughts of other commentators. I keep it in a "Wordkeeper Economy Canvas Bible Cover Extra Large" which fits a notebook as well. It's too nice to leave in my Bible cover when reading it in my hands, so I only use the Bible cover for transporting it to and from church. I recommend also ordering a "PIGMA Micron 005, Ultra Fine Bible Note Pen/Underliner, Blue" for clear and clean underlining or note-taking that is easy to read and does not bleed through. The free online version is also nice. When I miss my morning devotions I can go online and read and hear the daily Bible reading. I got my name embossed on the front in script style and love it!

This bible has helped broaden my comprehension of God's scriptures, thereby allowing me to more fully worship him. As far as materialistic standards go, aesthetically I have the Genuine Burgundy version and it is phenomenal; but, that is not what is most important about this bible. The most outstanding feature is definitely the combination of the English Standard Version (an easy to read, yet very accurate version) combined with the scholarly commentary. So far, in the week I've had it, the most helpful aspect of the commentary is the captivation of context. I have been able to understand what was going on when each book was written. I would recommend this bible.s

This Bible has great study features! I have a hard back copy & love it, so when our son got married last year, we (both sets of parents) bought a personalized leather copy for the new couple so they would have a nice family Bible. Now our daughter is getting married, so we bought another one as a wedding gift for her & her new husband.
