1 Kings is a continuation of a narrative of the history of Israel which begins in 1 Samuel and continues through into 1 & 2 Kings. While we so often struggle with the events and issues of the book of 1st Kings, Ralph Davis uncovers the common struggle with events and issues in 1 Kings and shows how the book can apply to the contemporary settings of the 21st century. Davis uses pastoral application and laces it with his own sense of humour.
Dale Ralph Davis is pastor of Woodland Presbyterian Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Previously he was Professor of Old Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi.

A spectacular book. Davis writes with a rare combination of expertise, application, and humor. He deals with the academic side of things without getting bogged down in details. A great resource for pastors who want the OT to come alive in their preaching. I would also recommend his work as great devotional material. Davis' readers won't be able to walk away from the books without being confronted with the truths of Scripture.
