Crossway Books & Bibles For the Fame of God's Name: Essays in Honor of John Piper

John Piper has had a profound impact on countless men and women over his nearly thirty years of ministry. From his online ministry with Desiring God to his preaching ministry at Bethlehem Baptist to his writing ministry in over thirty books, his faithful service has encouraged and challenged many with God's Word.

Piper's influence does not stem from his own abilities and accomplishments, but finds its source in his consistent and humble leading of others to Scripture, where the breathtaking glory of God is displayed in all its wonder. We rejoice and are changed as we encounter glorious truths about God in Piper's ministry.

It is in this spirit that friends and colleagues of Piper, including Wayne Grudem, D. A. Carson, Randy Alcorn, and others, honor him by presenting For the Fame of God's Name: Essays in Honor of John Piper covering topics central to his long standing ministry: prayer, the sovereignty of God, justification, Jonathan Edwards, Christian Hedonism, and more.

Pastors, scholars, and lay leaders will benefit from this tribute to a man who has labored so faithfully for the fame of God's name.

Though some would argue the fact, no one has impacted contemporary Reformed thought over the past quarter-century than has John Piper. This book of essays in honor of Piper were written by friends and contemporaries who know him best and who have greatly benefitted from his ministry. In reality, many more (including myself) would have liked to have written in tribute of this man, who would much prefer that all praise be deflected to His Lord. The articles address areas that have become part and parcel of Piper's ministry (Christian Hedonism, the Sovereignty of God, the Gospel (the Cross and the Resurrection), the Supremacy of God in All Things, and Preaching and Practical Ministry). There is also an opening section on Piper himself, revealing areas of his life, family, and ministry that most of us would not otherwise have known. I was challenged by those personal revelations, and not the least bit disappointed. I highly recommend this book, not only for its personal quality but for its theological value as well. It should be pointed out that this project (edited by Sam Storms and Justin Taylor) was carried out without Piper's knowledge, and the first copy was presented to him as a complete surprise.
