Haunt of Jackals by Eric Wilson is a suspense/thriller book. It sheds light on the darkness of sin and how it can envelop us and eat us up if we dont step into the light. At first when I read this, I thought very Vatican-ish; the whole Dan Brown Angels and Demons things was very forefront in my mind. It took me a while to get into it probably three or four chapters before I started wanting to read it. But as I got into it, I enjoyed it more and more. The characters were brought to life (and I do think reading the first part of the trilogy would be useful) and I couldnt help but wonder what was happening to them next.I loved the different views on the story; having the option of seeing it from 3/4 sides was really interesting. I also found the obscure letters woven in the book that come together at the end extremely clever. I love the way the book weaves through history and brings things into life. It is an epic fight of good versus evil and the cost of sin in our lives.Wilson is a great storyteller who weaves a chaotic tale that will send shivers down your spine. Amongst the fiction, I found truths the book that made me oooo and ah-ha through it. And the more I read, the better I liked the book. The end of the book made me gasp and cry! I will definitely be getting the next book! The only thing I worry about books like this, is people taking it too seriously. Sort of like the Left Behind series, or even Angels and Demons. Its easy to get a following for this type of fiction and some of the crazies coming out of the closet over vampires and such (or sporting Harry Potter attire, or trekkie gear.. or screaming The end is nearrrrrrrr! Were all going to die!! lol you know what I mean?) It is fiction and we need to remember that! I think its good Christian Adult reading and competitive for the secular market.

This series is getting better all the time! I think it's neat the way characters from "Dark To Mortal Eyes" & "Expiration Date" are interracting. Can we see an Aramis Black cameo in the next one?

Building upon the carefully laid foundation of Field of Blood Wilson pumps up the action elements of the series with face-to-face conflict with Collectors, and more actively nefarious collection schemes by the undead. A missing character from the first novel is brought into the story line as others fade into the background while keeping Gina and her newly adopted Romanian son, Pavel, in the forefront.The pacing varies as Wilson intersperses vampire supremacy struggles with hand-to-hand combat and scenes of bittersweet domestic bliss while Gina struggles to raise her charge in a Nistarim protection program setting. Some mysteries are revealed, while others have only hinted at unfolding.Ginas tough yet wounded persona would make Angelina Jolie a great choice for a lead role in a film based on the series. I rarely associate book characters with actors, but my mental match of the two is unmistakable. Im thinking but only on the surface level Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, a tough nut with a brittle shell thats been caused by emotional disappointments and hurts from the past. However, Ginas maternal instincts, her attempts to hack out the root of bitterness in her life and her subsequent spiritual growth in this novel add a depth of character that Lara could only wish for.Continuing to draw upon the powerful symbology inherent in the life-blood, Wilson delicately explores the themes of freedom in Christ, redemption, and a score of other insights drawn from scripture and understatedly woven throughout the text. Though more distinctly Christian than the first novel, many of the insights and parallels will only be seen by those actively engaged in a Christian walk. Those who arent will still find the series an intriguing read with an aura of what will be interpreted as spiritual mysticism without a deeper understanding of the parable-like threads throughout.

When we last left Gina, Cal, and Dov, they were fighting the undead collectors in Romania. Having banished several of the Akeldama Cluster, Gina meets up with Cal to see whats next. He suggests that she relocate to the Pacific Northwest and raise one of the Romanian orphansone who Cal thinks might grow to be one of Those Who Resistas her son.Gina changes her name to Kate, and she and Kenny live the American dream in Small Town, USA. But on the other side of the planet, Natira, the true heir to the Akeldama Cluster is seeking out Those Who Resist. Hes found many of them already, but is waiting until he knows where they all are before he strikes. But what will happen if Natira meets up with the Akeldama Cluster again? He will learn about Ginas existence and want to take her out. And what will happen to Kenny? Gina must face her fears and trust the Nazarene if she is going to survive. But will she?Eric Wilson is a master storyteller. Every page is an adventure waiting to unfold. His creativity amazes, and his writing gives the reader chills as the Fallen and the Unfallen battle for the souls of earth. Haunt of Jackals increases the tension created in Field of Blood and leaving us thirsty for more. I highly recommend this for older teens who love creepy stories.

I loved this book! Never before has a book I have read put into perspective just how truly invasive sin can be and how once it takes root can grow into other areas of your life. Also, I really appreciate how the author reminds us so clearly how any dalliance with evil is never, ever "romantic" as is often portrayed in other books and movies. Evil can and does manifest itself in sometimes beautiful ways but make no mistake it's only aim is our destruction. Ultimately and always the power of Christ will win but there is that pesky thing called choice. This book illustrates, so well, the ramifications of your choice.
