Thomas Nelson Healing Sands - eBook

In the struggle for healing, when do you fight and when do you surrender?

Ryan Alexander-Coe is a talented photojournalist who has been on assignment all over the world. But when her two sons choose to live with their father after her divorce, Ryan must give her career up for a small-town newspaper job in order to be near them.

Life spirals out of control when her fifteen-year-old son is arrested. Desperation--both over the fact that she cannot believe her son commited this crime and that he refuses to talk to her--sends her anger level soaring . . . and eventually sends her storming into Dr. Sullivan Crisp's office in search of ways to cope with her anger. Sully is in town assisting at one of his clinics and continuing his search for Belinda Cox, the woman whose guilt-inducing counseling caused the death of his wife and daughter. When Sully's search ends in disaster, both he and Ryan will have to fully rely on God--rather than themselves--to survive these storms.

This is the 3rd book in the Sullivan Crisp novel series. I would suggest reading them in order as some of the storylines would be hard to pick up in Book 3 alone, but I do know of some friends that started with this book and still enjoyed it. I love Sully Crisp and his unusual method of helping people (and himself). I highly recommend this book!

Having read the first two books in this series I was anxioius to read the third. This was a captivating book using a psycologist as the main character. Though he remained the main character each story was unique.

I enjoyed this third insallment of the Sullivan Crisp novels. I enjoyed the first two more, but it was good nonetheless. The book was well-written and the plot was interesting, however, it was a little hard to "get into it" at first. But if you've read the the first two novels, you'll definitely want this one as well.

This is the third book in the Sullivan Crisp Series and I have read each one, thoroughly enjoyed each one, and can honestly say I have learned something with each one. You do not have to read the entire series to appreciate the individual stories, but if you do read the series you get to see Sully learn along with you.I related strongly to the main female character as I am a single mother of two sons. I highly recommend this book to everyone and plan on loaning out my copy to others. I was absorbed in this story from the first page.

A moving story of God's redeeming grace in the real world. Although the ending of this book leads me to believe this may be the end of the Sullivan Crisp series, I absolutely hope it's not! Powerfully written. Sully is a friend I hope to learn more from!

Love the Sullivan Crispt novels!!! This was was especially riveting. The character Sully is so transparent with his life and the counseling sessions with his client are quite helpful in that he offers some good tools for coping with emotional problems. I have read all the books in this series and can hardly wait for the next one!

Healing Sands by Nancy Rue and Stephen Arterburn is an easy read that hooks you in fairly quickly. The book tells the story of Ryan Coe, a photographer who moved to be closer to her two boys, Jake and Alex, who live with her ex-husband.She has difficulty re-entering their lives and when her son Jake is arrested, she feels like her life is completely our of her control. She believes he is innocent, but her husband refuses to allow her son to discuss the situation with her. When her son shuts down completely, she begins to see a local therapist, Dr. Sullivan Crisp. She realizes that she needs to control her anger in order to get through to her son and make a difference in his life.Dr. Crisp, or Sully as he is known, is also new to the area and is struggling with his own pain and sorrow following the deaths of his wife and infant daughter. Sully and Ryan work together in their search for healing.Although I thought the book was very predictable, I enjoyed it enough that I purchased the other titles in the Sullivan Crisp series and they also made for enjoyable reading.

After along wait and a busy schedule I have finally finished my review booksneeze:Ryan Coe is a very talented photo journalist that has traveled the world. Lost since everything she once had has disappeared and changed. When she divorces and her boys want to live with there father she must give her job up for a smalltown job, that little did she know would change her life even more. My Review:I usually get into a book as soon as I open it but it took me a few pages before I was into and any action caught my eye. After finishing the read I was left wanting to know more of the story and characters, but in all the anticipation of getting through it was well worth the preservation.I think the good aspect of the novel was Ryans character, as she was real and not afraid to admit her anger. I thought her honesty was refreshing and nice. As the story got deeper into Ryans thoughts i became very interested in finding out what the end was going to bring. There are two previous novels that i am very interested into reading just to get a touch of the back story alittle bit.The authors wrote this very well and with such a powerful story with compelling situations and lots of humor, it gave me the reader some thought provoking questions on love, sacrifice and patiences. Id recommend this to any reader who loves contemporary fictionI received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. This was my first Sullivan Crisp novel and I have to admit with not having the background story it took some effort to get connected to the characters. Once the book got going it flowed nicely and actually led to a very twisty and dramatic finale.I think the best aspect of the novel was Ryans character, as I felt she was real and not ashamed to admit her anger and frustrations on the page. Ive read some reviews that Ryans character was over the top but I thought her honesty was refreshing. As the story dove deeper into Ryans thoughts and turmoil I found myself being drawn further into her circumstances and actually interested in going back to read the previous two books in the series. The authors- whether it was Rues or Arterburns words on the pages were written very well and wove a powerful story with humor, compelling situations and gave the reader some thought provoking questions on patience, love and sacrifice.

HEALING SANDS is a powerful tapestry woven of drama and mystery, shot through with sparkling threads of humor and poetry. This compelling story grabbed me and held me until the wee hours of the morning with laugh-out-loud and take-my-breath-away moments. Arterburn and Rue's writing reveals nuanced characters in compelling situations in settings that shimmer in their clarity. You'll blink sand from your eyes, and take new perspectives with you when you close the cover. I will read this book again--and highly recommend it to you, as I do HEALING STONES and HEALING WATERS, the first 2 books in the Sullivan Crisp Series.

Before reading Healing Sands by Nancy Rue and Stephen Arterburn, I knew I wanted to read the first 2 books in this series. I didn't want to come in to a story mid-plot, and be lost not knowing the character, Sullivan Crisp. I started with book 1, Healing Stones, then read book 2 Healing Waters. All 3 books touched me in different ways, all of them good. Each one with its own message, and own way of making you sit back, and think, then ask God... Lord, is this me? Sullivan Crisp is a therapist that uses game-show props, sounds, and references to get his point across, oh, and he's chasing demons of his own. He brings a quirky, compassionate, yet tortured view to each of his patients situations, all while trying to find the woman he holds accountable for his wife's death years earlier. When Ryan Coe walks into Sully's office, she expects miracles in a short time frame. Totally encompassed with anger, she knows that for her own mental state, and for the sake of her relationship with her two sons, she has to get her anger under control. Sully is her last resort. The Sullivan Crisp novels are all wonderful reads, bringing into focus issues that everyone has experience with to some extent, whether through personal or watching loved ones go through these problems. I got so lost in Healing Sands, I felt like I was sitting in Sully's office right beside Ryan, and walking side beside her as she dealt with the day to day issues, like and ex-husband, a son accused of murder, the clique of soccer moms, and the ex husband's very jealous girlfriend. That's enough to make even the calmest person angry. I hope the authors decide to keep this series going, I find myself clamoring for more Sully.

This book was a great read, in the fact that, my parents are getting divorced right now and although this is from the adults view, it still was a good book to read at this point in time. I definitely could relate to the feelings of Ryan, as well as her kids. The writing is amazing, the characters are true to life, and the overall story is absolutely incredible!!! I would recommend it to anyone, whether they have been affected by divorce or not, because it's an amazing book!!!

Ryan Coe is angryat the world, at her ex-husband, with her job and with herself. Shes a photojournalist who spent the last year in Africa, but moves to New Mexico to be near her sons. Healing Sands tells of the need for one to release their pain, anger, and disappoint to the One who is able to conquer it all. Sometimes we must surrender to God before we can take another step. While my friends and family seemed to enjoy this book, I could not seem to get interested. It did not grip me and keep my attention and was more of a chore to complete. I hope it proves to be a better read for you.

I received Healing Sands by Nancy Rue and Stephen Arterburn through the Thomas Nelson Blogger Review program. The character of Ryan Coe is a photojournalist who strives to capture the heart of each situation. She is a very controlling, angry person who one day, while photoing for work, is thrown into the middle of the situation as it is her own son! She decides to go to Sullivan Crisp's counseling center to help her with her anger. This novel began a bit slow, but as the suspense began to build, I could not put it down! The characters in this story pull you in! The character of Sullivan Crisp was very real though I may not have agreed with every one of his ways of counseling. One main idea I was touched with is that Sully and Ryan were continuously reminded that everything is in God's hands. It's all about Him! I recommend this book and I now want to read the other books in this series.

This is the third book in the Sullivan Crisp series and the third book that again has unhappy characters in it. Right from the get go, the reader immediately learns that Ryan is not a happy woman. She's divorced, she doesn't have custody of her kids and she has major anger management issues. Then her son is accused of murder and a hate crime. It's a mom's worst nightmare and Ryan has trouble trying to figure out how to handle it. Ryan's story, while unique for Christian fiction, is not unfamiliar as there are many parents and women who have gone through what she does. From her career to trying to handle both her children to dealing with her ex-husband's new girlfriend, she struggles with how to manage it all.To be honest, while I enjoyed Ryan's story, I really wanted to read more about Sully's story. This is probably because this is now the third book where we are learning more and more about what really happened with his wife. It's quite funny because while I was reading the first book, I had complained that the sections on Sully were slow and took away from the story. Now with this book I felt like there wasn't of it! I was a bit disappointed about what happened to Belinda. I was hoping for justice and an explanation, and perhaps even remorse. Instead, it felt like a cop-out resolution. I think it bothered me because there are people who think like her out there and use Christianity as an excuse to spread their beliefs and can potentially harm others. I did appreciate how Sully has grown since the first book. If he had found Belinda then, the same result would have probably happen by his own hands, yet now he had planned on just talking to her.Overall I enjoyed the story. It's not your typical Christian fiction. The characters here are flawed and come across very real. It is very refreshing to read about characters that DO have problems and don't always want to fix them.

Like its first two predecessors, Healing Stones and Healing Waters, Healing Sands is an incredible book. Ryan's pain and anger are palpable. And her response to therapy is spot-on for so many of us: fix the problem, but don't dig down for any root issues that might have caused it! Her interactions with the other Christian soccer moms are classic and will resonate with any woman who has been part of a group filled with tensions and unofficial, yet unconsciously assigned, roles. Sully's own quest for justice - or is it revenge? - adds an additional dimension to this story. A Reading Group Guide in the back of the book makes this an ideal choice for small groups or book clubs. This is truly Healing Fiction - dealing with real issues that folks face and pointing them to Truth.

Healing SandsBy Nancy Rue and Stephen ArterburnPublished by Thomas Nelson Ryan Alexander-Coe is a divorced photojournalist with two sons who have chosen to live with their father. Ryan is angry and frustrated with many things in her life and seeks out counseling from Dr. Sullivan Crisp following her sons arrest for what looks to be a racially motivated crime. Ryan searches for answers, as does Sully, who is looking for the woman he holds responsible for the death of his wife and daughter. When the unexpected happens to Sully, both he and Ryan are left struggling to rely fully on God. As they struggle for healing, will they learn when to fight and when to surrender to the Lord?I have to admit, that I really didnt think that I would like this book. Something about it just didnt appeal to me right away, but the more I read, the more I was drawn into the story and the lives of Ryan and Sully. As I watched them struggle with surrendering completely to God, I could see myself in their struggles. Surrendering to God is one of the hardest things a person ever has to do. Its SO hard to let go completely. Very enjoyable book!I am a member of the Thomas Nelsons Book Review Blogger program and as a member, I received a review copy of this book free of charge.
