Banner Of Truth The Christian in Complete Armour, 3 Volumes

John Newton, author of the hymn "Amazing Grace," said, "If I might read only one book beside the Bible, I would choose The Christian in Complete Armour." Charles Spurgeon wrote, "Gurnall's work is peerless and priceless; every line is full of wisdom; every sentence is suggestive." David Wilkerson, author of The Cross and the Switchblade, wrote, "The Christian in Complete Armour should be in the library of every man and woman of God." Originally written in 1655 in three volumes, this Puritan classic on spiritual warfare has been updated into modern English and abridged for easy reading. Volume 1 covers our call to arms, being armed, the nature of warfare and the character of Satan, and standing in the fight. Volumes 2 and 3 cover the various pieces of the armour of God. Three softcovers.

I purchased The Christian in Complete Armor, all three (3) volumes years ago. I gave it away and replaced it with another set. I used to buy bibles and give them away but these are to me the next best thing to reading the bible! Easy to read - plain English, every single word and sentence is backed by the Holy Spirit as it speaks through this author. Every thought is as applicable then as it is today. Reader gains incredible insight and you can read any volume - you don't have to read it in order of book 1, 2 and 3. You can open a page anywhere in any of the 3 books and find yourself profoundly engrossed as the book speaks volumes to you about how to live a Christian life, to have a Christian approach and outlook and behavior, and above all, it gives keen insight into spiritual warfare and how one must practice it. I highly and highly again recommend this book series to non-denominational Christians, Catholics and any other person who believes that Jesus is the son of God and our Saviour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still on the first paperback of the three in this Puritan classic. I am reading it at a snail's pace to be able to savor the wisdom of it content. I highly recommend this classic to anyone who wants to put into action that we are to put on the armour of God.

Spritual food for the Christian soul. In fact, it is vastly rich buffet. Although this is not a Bible book, you can tell that the author has read the Bible well, digested it well, meditated upon the words well, and what comes forth are rich teachings that can only be attributed to be from God's words. There are many Christian books today, but far fewer can stand up and share the same high platform as this set of books. Buy it, digest it, and pray over what you have gained from it section by section. It will help build you up to be stronger in the faith, more knowledgeable in God's Word, and find tools to fight the good fight.

This was the first puritan work I have ever read. Ive read books about Puritanism. And Ive read books on sermons by puritans. But this is my first time reading a set by a puritan. And I must say, Im very pleased.

I tried to read the original style years ago. This is spiritual platinum. Both Christianity Today and Christma magazines should write a review on this book.

Someone once said that if they were stranded on a desert island with a choice of only two books, they would be the Bible and Gurnall's "Complete Armour," hands down I would concur, only to the point that after having the time to read, digest and perhaps memorize both, I would pray for rescue, so I could then share with the world the living water which flows from these written sources!Of course, Gurnall is not Scripture. But he so deftly defines and expounds on the Scripture passages of Eph 6 using Scripture, that this book is extremely helpful in understanding Paul's vision from God regarding Eph 6!Nearly every page has a quote you will long to write in the margins of your Bible. The problem is, many of the quotes refer to multiple Scripture passages. An example is this quote, "Were there no devils, you would still have your hands full resisting the corruption of your own heart." That quote could find proof texting in Jer 17:9, Eccl 9:3, Matt 13:15 AND Mark 7:21-22!This is a book that will very likely change your world-view. Read this book, and follow it up with Lloyd-Jones' "I Am Not Ashamed." You will never be the same.
