Abingdon Press Rabbinic Literature

In order to comprehend the Judaism of Jesus' time, it is first necessary to understand the oral Torah and rabbinic canon (Halakhah and Aggadah). Neusner provides an excellent overview, outlining their content, background, and development; their relationship to Hebrew and Christian Scriptures; and their importance for biblical studies. Includes lists of texts and accessible translations. 136 pages, softcover from Abingdon.

Jacob Neusner in one of the foremost scholars on Second Temple Judaism and the rabbinic thought which may have influenced the the early messianic movement that became Christianity. Very much worth the reading for the serious NT student.
