Crossway Books & Bibles ESV Seek and Find Bible, TruTone, Blue

Published in partnership with Concordia Publishing House, this new full-color children’s Bible combines the complete ESV Bible text with more than 120 new, vibrant illustrations of major Bible stories. Accompanying each full-page illustration is the Bible story itself, clearly and accurately retold for young readers—and for the parents, grandparents, and teachers who read to them. Each story includes a Key Bible Verse to memorize, Additional Readings for discovering more of the story throughout the Bible, and simple Reflection Questions to help children begin to understand and apply God's Word. Colorful icons make it easy for young readers to see where each story is found in the Bible text and to locate the illustration that goes with it.

In addition, dozens of Bible characters are profiled throughout the pages, and color call-out sections provide illustrated facts about important Bible objects, structures, and places. Each Bible book begins with a child-friendly introduction, highlighting the important characters and themes found in it.

The ESV Seek and Find Bible is the ideal first “real” Bible for pre-readers and young readers, ages 5 to 9, to grow up with. It is also a wonderful resource for parents to use in family Bible reading and for teachers who teach the Bible to young children.

I purchased this Bible for a child almost 5 yrs. I would recommend it more for maybe an 7 or 8 yr. old; however, I do read the stories to my grandchild and she does enjoy it.

We have this bible in hard cover for our son, but our 3 year old daughter loves purple... So when we found this we were thrilled!!! Great bible, and love that we are getting the word into our children at this young age. Psalm 119:11 says... I have hidden your word in my heartthat I might not sin against you.

I purchased this for my daughter's first 'real' Bible, and I'm very happy that I did. My daughter is almost 7 and she was so excited when she opened it and saw her new 'big girl' Bible. While I don't expect her to be able to study this on her own yet, this is an awesome step up into her being able to look up her own memory verses and follow along as we read. The retellings of stories are at her reading level and she is able to read them to me with only minimal help.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good Bible geared to younger readers. Just keep in mind that this is an adult translation, so it is not an 'easy to read' or 'early reader' translation.

I was so happy to find a children's Bible with the complete ESV text and the fun pictures and kid friendly details. My 5 year old is learning to look up his own memory verses in his "real" Bible. Family devotions are much better now that he can follow along and have the same text we do. It is a bit fragile with the onion skin paper, but it has been good for my son to make sure he takes very good care of his Bible.

This bible is nice looking, easy to hold and a font size that is easy to read. It is supposed to be for children 6-10. The translation does not make it easier for children of that age to understand, so it still takes an adult to explain the text. It is hard to find a translation for this age of child, and have it be appropriate and still understood by the child. I expect to be involved in my children's spiritual growth, so I would still reccomend this version.

We got this Bible for our 4 year old grand-daughter. It is a very nice Bible. The tru-tone "leather" is soft and feels like really soft leather. It is a real Bible, not a story book Bible. It has the entire Old and New Testaments. There are tasteful pictures and good Bible stories and lots of explanatory extras. We highly recommend this Bible for young readers. Our grand-daughter loves it!

We have changed over to ESV for all our CE classes and we wanted an ESV to give to incoming first graders. These were great. Loved all the color illustrations. The only draw back was that they do not have a dedication page which I thought was odd. We just made our own book plate.

Wonderful Bible! Might be a little big for smaller children, but they will "grow" into it. Even excellent for older children and adults, although the ESV Student Study Bible has even more than this does.

I bought two of these. This one for my 7 year old son, and the purple one for my 6 year old daughter. They love them, and I love them! I use my daughter's quite frequently, myself! The pages are bible pages, they aren't thick, so young children should be taught to turn pages carefully. Read my detailed description under the lavender seek and find bible! You shouldn't regret this purchase! Get a bible cover though, the cover isn't very durable if you are going to have kids carry it around a lot!

This Bible is nothing short of revolutionary. I don’t say that lightly, and I rarely come out so strongly in support of anything I review, but the ESV Seek and Find Bible is absolutely incredible.
This is my first personal encounter with the ESV translation, so I don’t have many thoughts to share on that front, save that the ESV is a fairly literal, trustworthy version popular especially amongst those with reformed inclinations. What truly sets this Bible apart though, is the wealth of additional resources included within the pages of the Bible text.
Designed for children in the 5 – 9 bracket, this is an incredibly visual Bible. Along with the full text of the ESV, readers will also find many full color features. I’ve never seen full color illustrations on onion skin – this is really a first, and I’m thankful for advances in printing technology that have made Bibles like this available!
We’ve all owned children’s Bibles that had a few full-color paintings on special pages throughout the Bible – normally FAR away from the Bible text they were meant to illustrate. We’ve also had Bibles with rather dreary 2-dimensional maps of Jerusalem in the time of Jesus (which I could never make sense of), and a map of Paul’s journeys. That is about as far as visual helps went for children ‘back in the day’.
I’m thankful that a new day has dawned for children’s Bibles! There are 130 full page, full color illustrations of important Bible stories found right within the sections of scripture that they are meant to illustrate. Not only that, but there are also Bible stories to go along with those pictures (from 1 -3 pages in length). Those Bible stories are tied to symbols found within the text of the Bible itself to help readers find the actual account in the Bible. These stories also have related Bible verses listed and discussion questions included. How neat is that? This is seriously a fabulous, all-in-one resource Bible for family devotions, you can read the Bible story to your little ones AND the actual Bible text as well for additional depth and meaning.
Even better though is the inclusion of visual helps. There are full color illustrations of tabernacle items, the tabernacle itself, the garb of the high priest, the temple in Solomon’s day, the temple in Jesus’ day, common ship designs, it goes on and on, and is absolutely amazing! I so wish I had a Bible like this as a child; it would have helped me understand the layout of Jerusalem much more if I had a painting of it rendered in a three-dimensional style from overhead. Parents won’t need to have several additional reference titles on hand to provide visuals for their children of the places and items being described, it will be RIGHT THERE in the Bible for them. There are even personal profiles included of the major people of the Bible – full color illustrations of them along with a short biographical blurb.
There are other neat features as well – each book of the Bible comes with a fairly standard summary page – an overview, the author, period the book was written in, theme, major people, purpose of the book, suggested memory verses etc. The neatest feature on this page is a mini-timeline snapshot that places the book historically amongst major points of Bible history. This is another great visual help that pegs main people and events into place in the framework of history. Colorful maps, and a short dictionary are also included, along with incredibly helpful indexes of the illustrations and Bible stories that are included. The text is also footnoted with helpful notes about the meaning of Hebrew names, alternate words, etc. for added meaning.
Even if you aren’t familiar with the ESV Bible, it is VERY worth giving it a try with all of the wonderful features this Bible includes. To be honest, as an adult I really like the diagrams and representations of highly visual items that are described in the text of the Bible. As a fairly new Christian these are so helpful to me because I haven’t been exposed to Christian visuals throughout my entire life. I’m so excited to share these images with my children so that they can better create a mental landscape of biblical events and locations to place biblical events in.
Though designed to be a starter Bible for children that they can grow into – starting with parents reading them the Bible stories, then moving into them reading the ESV text for themselves, I think it really shines as a Bible for family devotional reading. It is very appealing for children as well though, as soon as I shoed my oldest daughter (8) all of the features it included, she was hopping on Amazon to see how much one would cost (she’d like to buy her own copy to add to her personal library).
For families with emerging readers, I still think that the Young Explorer’s NIrV is the best choice because of the simple language and large font. Once a child is reading fluently though, they could certainly tackle this ESV Bible; the language is at a higher level, and the font is smaller, so your child will need a bit more confidence to read this translation of the Bible.
They didn’t make Bibles like this when I was a kid, but I certainly wish they would have! Don’t miss this one folks; it’s a groundbreaking new concept for Bibles!

I'm always on the lookout for books and Bibles that I can use in our home to hand down our Christian faith to our children.
Even though our youngest daughter is a couple of years older than the age recommended for this Bible, I was interested in reviewing this ESV (English Standard Version) Children's Bible. And so was she!
The inside flap of the ESV Seek and Find Bible states that it "is the ideal complete Bible for pre-readers and young readers (ages 5-9) to grow up with."
I do agree that this is a great Bible to grow up with! But I would venture to say that for pre-readers and new readers, the 10-point font size might be a little bit intimidating for them. My oldest would have felt comfortable with this format and size of font when she was about 7 years old and was reading fluently. My youngest would have enjoyed using this Bible when she was about 5 years old - but she was a very early reader and was reading out of my own Bible at age 4-1/2.
Every child is different! But to sit and read this together as a family and have children sit and listen while Dad reads the Bible? Well, this would work well.

Gave this to my son for his 7th birthday. He truly seemed more excited about getting this Bible than he did about the Heely, wheely shoes he'd been wanting for months! We now take turns reading it almost every day. We like the short Bible stories throughout with pictures. Growing up on KJ and NIV, this is our first ESV Bible in the family and so far, so good.

I LOVE this Bible! Our church uses the ESV translation and I find it literally accurate, easy to read and full of excellent resources. I purchased this Bible to use with my preschool children at the Christian school I work in. It is such a wonderful resource! Each illustration is accompanied by a story that is very will written, true to scripture and very appropriate for young children. I love the fact that the illustration and story is located in the spot where the actual scripture can be read! There is a key Bible verse for each story, three questions to help guide discussion and each story ties in Christ's work as well. The illustrations are beautiful and my preschoolers love to look at them and pick out the details that are mentioned in the story. I have the hardback version and it is very well made and sturdy. I expect to get many years of use out of this book. It is recommended for ages 5-9, but I use it with younger children with no problem. I feel it's very appropriate for children up through middle school as well. It has a simple dictionary/concordance in the back as well as a section of maps. The introduction to each book is thorough, but simple. This is the best children's Bible I have ever used!

I absolutely LOVE this bible! I bought if for my 6 year old daughter, and then bought the blue for my 7 year old son. They are doing so well with it, that I am now going to buy the blue for my 11 year old son. If it weren't for the full color illustrations, I would use this for my own personal bible! But for the kids, these illustrations are just gorgeous!
The ESV text is very easy for kids to read, but still has the word for word accuracy. We have always been a King James only family, but have been frustrated with how hard it is for the kids to understand. We feel the ESV is an answer to prayer. We still memorize scriptures out of the KJV, but use this for all else. The pages are clean, and easy for kids to turn. The format of the test...oh, I just can't say enough! It's colorful, but tasteful, and layed out on the page beautifuly! I also love how there are bible stories in here that the kids can read, and below the story, it tells where to find that story in the bible! This bible is such an answer to prayer, and will be used for years, and years to come!
Word to the wise though, the engraved names don't turn out well, because of the texture of the cover on that spot.
