Can Fame, Wealth and Power Buy Happiness?

Everett Lester and his band, DeathStroke, ride the crest of a wave to superstardom. But the deeper they become immersed in fame, wealth, and power, the more likely they are to be swallowed alive by the drugs, alcohol and discontentment that have become their only friends. Everett is headed down a perilous road when he is charged with the murder of his personal psychic. The only hope he can cling to comes from the letters written by a prayerful young lady in Kansas. Consistent and persistent, the notes offer Everett a fulfillment he's never grasped before. But what if he's found guilty of murder? Will he recognize the spiritual battle that's raging for his soul?

Good book. Entertaining. It definitely kept me engaged. I liked how the narrative switched between the current trail and the past goings on in the protagonists crazy rock and roll life. There's a good witness for Christ in it. And though it does not delve too deeply into it, it's not for those who shy away from occult talk. In my opinion an entertaining, quick read.

If I could I would give this book ten stars out of five. I couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover in just over a day. Now I have to get the second book in the series and go from there. This book is so powerful in showing how Christ can change our lives if we will just open up and let him.

From the first sentence, I was hooked. "It was a glorious blaze, the fire we set." Oh, this author can write!A rock star moves deeper into the darkness as he gains fame and fortune--everything that most people dream would make them happy. But he's not happy; something's missing. The protagonist, Everett Lester, the lead singer from DeathStroke is quite believable. His actions offend me, and then my heart begins to soften. I ache when I read about his childhood. How could anyone survive? Yet he did; people do.When Everett makes a connection with psychic Endora Crystal, I hold my breath. It's easy to see that she is pure evil. The downward slide is predictable, but the story moves along and never drags. It's written in first person in a flip-flop style as the young singer finds enormous success, and then flips to the trial where he faces Murder One for the death of his psychic. I find it a gripping read, because I want to discover not only what happens next, but how did it come about? This is not typical Christian Fiction. It's an edgy, gritty tale of today's rock bands. I heartily recommend it to all ages, whether of not you listen to rock!

Everett Lesters life as a mega rock star seems enviable to his fans. Money, drugs, women, travel what more could there be? Everett even has his own personal psychic, Endora, who encourages him to use the platform he has been given to share her truth. And what is her truth? That we have been deceived if we believe that there will be judgment for our actions, that there is a heaven and a hell. We are all our own gods and all life on the other side is good for everyone. However the toll of his lifestyle is starting to wear on Everett. When a fan is severely injured at one of his concerts Everetts difficult journey begins to find forgiveness and purpose. And the letters sharing the love of Jesus that he has received for years from Karen Bayliss, a young woman who is not a fan but has felt a burden from the Lord to pray for him, start to bring about changes in Everetts life. But Endora will go to any cost not to lose the platform that she has in Everett and to keep him from using it to share the truth of the gospel of Christ. I found this book hard to put down and one of the best examples of the reality of spiritual warfare that I have read in a long time. Even those of us who are believers in Jesus can tend to discount the power of Satan in todays world. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the evil rulers of the unseen world. Creston Mapes does a wonderful job of showing that while our enemy is alive & well and seeking to bring destruction; our God is greater and His love, grace and redemptive power are there for all who call upon Him.

This is a great book by a very talented writer. When you finish this book you will have no doubts about what the forces of darkness can do. Good news! It shows very clearly how the light of The Lord Jesus and his saving power drives out and destroys the works of darkness. A must read!

You'll love this book! It's bold and different but filled with such truth. Great for non-Christians because it's very real and not preachy, sounds like something that would be in today's headlines.
