Multnomah Books This Beautiful Mess

Jesus' sayings about the kingdom of God just might be the most overlooked of his teachings. Yet the Good News of the kingdom---a treasure beyond price---was what he came to preach. It's time to ask: What is the kingdom Jesus talked about? Could it already be here, hidden from sight? If so, where is it? How can I be a part of it? A new generation is tuning in to the teachings of Jesus and to their revolutionary implications. Could it be that living under Christ's reign is not merely a future vision but a present reality?

McKinley's exploration is fresh, accessible, and timely. With careful attention to historical texts, he unveils new understandings of authentic personal and social transformation. The time is now. Your opportunity is here. In the mess of everyday life, you can live in the beautiful presence of the kingdom.

I had heard so much advance raving about how great the book is. So I bought it and read it. For me, it did not live up to the expectations raised by my friends. It is a good book, worth the price and the time. McKinley raises some thought provoking ideas that will take some time to process. I was already on board with the concept that Chris's reign is a present reality and that we, as Christ followers, should not be preoccupied with marking time while awaiting Heaven. Rather, we should be preoccupied with making this world a better place.

Rick McKinley is truly one of the pioneer pastors of our day. He and his congregation are truly committed to living out the gospel in the trenches and presenting Jesus to those who are on the fringes of our society. He compassionately communicates the true meaning of loving your neighbor in this book. Convicting, funny, moving and inspiring--you cannot read this book and not have your own view of the community you live in challenged. A truly life-changing book!
