Multnomah Books So You're Thinking About Homeschooling, Revised

Confused and intimidated by the complexities of homeschooling, many parents assume it could never work for them. Now an updated edition of So Youe Thinking About Home Schooling by Lisa Whelchel--herself a homeschooling mother of three--introduces to readers fifteen composite portraits of homeschooling families who show how every family can successfully face the unique challenges of its situation. The story-based approach deals with common questions of time management, teaching weaknesses, and outside responsibilities, as well as children's age variations, social and sports involvement, learning disabilities, and boredom. Seeing a wide variety of homeschooling families in action gives parents the information and confidence they need to make their own decisions about home-based education. Includes a new chapter from Lisa and an all-new resource guide with recommendations from real-life homeschooling families!

This book is a must read for the parent who is considering homeschooling their child/children. Lisa did extensive research and interviews with homeschooling families to come up with each chapter for her book.
The book is written in Lisa's easy conversational style format taking you through the different methods of homeschooling, curriculum and resources to help you decide if homeschooling is the right educational format for your child/children.

In my preparation/research into homeschooling, this was one of the first books I read. Welchel's fictional homeschooling situations gave me the confidence I needed and showed me that there is more than one way to homeschool.
The books is a very simple read and I even enjoy re-reading it now am then.

My wife and I read this last summer. We decided to really pray and discuss our kids education and look into the options. While we didn't decide on homeschooling this was a great fly over view of the topic. We think so highly of homeschooling and know many wonderful friends that choose it, but we decided for the time being it just wasn't for us. I would highly suggest this book for anyone looking into the homeschooling option. A good book about the public school option is called "Going Public" by Kelli/David Pritchard.

This is a great book for every parent to read. It made me realize that the sterotype I had in mind on what homeschool families are like was completely wrong. One of the families in this book will probably look a lot like yours. It's also a very easy to read book. It's interesting and funny at times and it's not trying to convince you to homeschool. It's just trying to help you decide which type of schooling is best for your child.

This is a great book for those considering home schooling. I read it twice. Once all the way through, and a second time to reread the families that sounded similar to my own and intrigued me. Lisa shows through each family's story how every family can home school. Our family has been so blessed by home schooling. This book got us on our way.

Excellent book if you're considering homeschooling. I love how it's laid out where each chapter is a different family's story. A great look into all the different ways you can make homeschooling work for your family. There's also a wonderful list of resources at the back of the book so you have a good place to start. Excellent reading!
