P & R Publishing The Westminster Larger Catechism: A Commentary

J.G. Vos wrote a series of studies of the Larger Catechism that first appeared in Blue Banner Faith and Life (1946-49) and has never circulated widely. G.I. Williamson has edited Vos's commentary, and P&R is publishing it in book form for the first time. Because the Larger Catechism supplements the Shorter Catechism on such topics as the church and the means of grace, Presbyterians dare not ignore it. This edition of J.G. Vos's commentary will encourage a recommitment to the Larger Catechism's increased use and study.

As we study the document this book has helped to get past the difficulty the older English presents.
It provides an expanded look at the individual questions.
It has provided insight to a document too often ignored.

I am not sure what I was expecting from the WC and it seemed to be a bit catholic; but, it was suggested for a class and considered by the instructor to be very informative and helpful. Perhaps later on it will be.

I have a large number of books on the Westminster Confession and the catechisms, but this is by far the best of them. It's very deep, yet the concepts are explained in Question and Answer format that make even the most difficult concepts easy enough for most any adult to understand. While it deals specifically with the Larger Catechism, rather than the confession itself, or the Shorter Catechism, this is a benefit since every topic found in those great documents is dealt with here. If my house were on fire and I could only save a few volumes from my library, this would be one of the first I'd take. It's worth it's weight in gold.
