This book will make you really think about how you handle your issues with your teenager. Very helpful advice. Makes parents look at themselves first and then look at their teen through different eyes. I'm learning a lot.

Age of Opportunity is an excellent resource for anyone wishing to raise children in the atmosphere and environment of a "redemptive community" (i.e., with the same kind of balanced love, grace, mercy, and discipline that God uses with us). The author does a great job applying biblical principle over psychological theory. Once more, the emphasis on raising a spiritually healthy child over and above a mentally or emotionally healthy child (equating the child's spiritual health to all the above) is refreshing. Of-course, as with any book on this topic, you must read Age of Opportunity with a certain amount of biblical discernment. However, the overwhelming amount of biblically practical, applicable and useful information far outweighs the few spots that may leave you guessing. Overall, a great asset to your library and a wonderful addition to your teen-rearing resources!

This is by far the best book I have ever read on parenting. It presents our parenting task as journeying with our children on the walk of faith. I have recommended it to everyone I know!

For parents and church workers desiring to keep God's priorities in place when dealing with teenagers, P D Tripp has given us instruction that first centers on the condition of our own hearts. Today, there is much "method" advice which aims at behavioral modification, but we all need this gospel based teaching. What an opportunity awaits the readers of The Age of Opportunity!

A wonderful opportunity to understand the teen, God's perspective of the growing teen and how we as parents can better reach our teen. I have a pre-teen which I find this book just as applicable.

What an encouraging and challenging book for parents. Tripp doesnt pull any punches in this outstanding book that challenges parents to be more deliberate and intentional about their parenting. The primary emphasis of the book is getting through to parents that raising children is not about how they look, how well they score on some standardized test, or how many touchdowns they score, but ultimately if they have a heart for God. Tripp first deals with the perspective of parents on this issue refocusing them on whats really important, then he dives in to encourage parents to pursue their teens and accept this stage of parenting as a God-given opportunity instead of dreading it and working to avoid it at all costs.Tripp encourages parents to find a balance between protecting them from the world and allowing them to assimilate themselves into the world. Tripp knows that many parents of teens are tired and worn out but he thinks that the reason is because they are spending too much time and energy addressing the wrong thing. Tripp warns parents that they should not focus on behavior modification, but be willing to spend the time and energy to find out the root causes which underlie their behavior. One theme constantly running through Age of Opportunity is the emphasis given to conversation parents making the effort to talk with their childrenWhile the intended audience is parents with teenage children, much of the sage advice is applicable to parents with any age children and the book might be a better read for parents before their children hit the teen years. Outstanding book, easy-to-read, biblically sound, challenging and encouraging Age of Opportunity has my highest recommendation.

This is an excellent, Bible based book and study on how to raise teenagers. A refreshingly positive look at the teen years. I learned so much about what God's word says on my relationship with my teens. Tons of practical advice. The study in the back of the book asks provocative questions and keeps you looking for your answers in the Bible. A must for parents of kids ages 8 and up. It's never to early to start your journey.
