Step into the wild moorlands of 17th-century Scotland and witness the clash between the English crown and Scottish Covenanters! Seamlessly weaving fact and fiction, Bond's richly textured stories follow the dissident M'Kethe family as they endure persecution and hardship because of their refusal to recognize the king as head of the church. Breathtaking adventures for your 10- to 14-year-olds! Approx. 250 pages each, softcovers from P & R.
I bought this trilogy for my school, but I couldn't decide whether to put it in the elementary or high school library, so I gave it to a 7th grader who loves history and asked him to read it. He's Irish, but his mom has a Scottish heritage, and he was interested right away in the series. His parents told me 3 days later that he loved the first book, and that he cried over the terrible massacre and pelted them with questions. He devoured the trilogy and told me to put it in the high school (gr. 7-12) library, he thought he'd have had a hard time with the tragedies in the stories if he had been much younger. He can't wait for Mr. Bond to put out more books on the M'Kethes!

These were definitely some awesome books! Filled with action and suspense, yet they were excellent for kids. Girls would also love these books, because I know I enjoyed them very much!
