Thomas Nelson The Life God Blesses

In The Life God Blesses, author and pastor Gordon MacDonald asks if you are prepared to weather the storms of life, or if you are more concerned with outward appearances than with what lies beneath the surface in your soul. The Life God Blesses steers you toward the disciplines, convictions, silence, beauty, and spirit that feed and prepare the soul to recognize and receive God's blessings.

The subtitle is what drew me to this book: Weathering the storms that threaten the soul. We all have storms but how are we going to handle them? The parable of building a sailboat that begins and ends the book gives a frame of reference for examining your life. Do you devote your time and energy to what people can see? (The mast, the sails, the deck...) Or do you build into what is below the waterline? For the boat, that means the keel. For our lives, that means God. If you build your life around God, you won't be shaken by the storms as much as someone that hasn't built his life that way.I read this book every year to see how much I have grown and to be inspired to develop my relationship with Christ. I cannot recommend this book more highly. If I were rich I would buy everyone I know a copy. As it is, all my true friends know how much I love it. I especially love the story of Gordon's grandfather. If I can be as committed to prayer as he was, my life will have been well spent.Parts of the book only need a quick skim. But overall, this book is PROFOUND and the concepts now reside in my soul.
