Customer Reviews for Crossway Books & Bibles ESV Comprehensive Concordance of the Bible

Crossway Books & Bibles ESV Comprehensive Concordance of the Bible

An essentially literal translation, the ESV Bible combines word-for-word accuracy with readability, literary excellence, and depth of meaning. First published in 2001, it is widely acclaimed for maintaining the elegance of Bible translations in the King James tradition.

The ESV Comprehensive Concordance of the Bible provides an excellent study companion for the ESV Bible. Elegantly designed with durability as a key consideration, this provides an extensive listing of Bible words. As a "comprehensive" concordance instead of a "exhaustive" the ESV Concordance focuses on listing the most important words while steering clear of common words with little interest to those studying Scripture.

Additional Features include:
  • Every biblical occurrence of nearly 14,000 words-a total of more than 300,000 concordance entries
  • Carefully selected verse segments for each entry that help quickly identify Bible passages
  • Complete entries for numerals found in the Bible
  • 115 frequently used but less essential words (e.g. a, and, the) are excluded
  • Please note: This concordance does not use Strong's numbers

The quality of the book itself is high, looks like it would last forever with continuous use. The print was an easy 6 pt. to read, paper quality was of nice weight, no bleed through.
But $70. retail, $50. wholesale, I don't think so. It is nothing more than a nice handi-reference concordance. I think they are asking us to pay for Mounces' name printed on the front. Also when skimming through it, looked up 'face', moved on to 'faced' but it was as if there was a page missing with no identifying bold print to let you know you transition from one form of the word to another, unsat. Probably an oversight but how many other typo's will you discover over time?

Since there is no connection to the original language whatsoever in this concordance, it is extremely limited. If you want to do a word study this resource will not get you very far at all. I was hoping for something better. I didn't look close enough when I bought it. I just saw "Comprehensive Concordance" and assumed things like the Strong's numbering system would be included. That is my bad I know. Should have paid closer attention. I hope they will one day come out with an "exhaustive" concordance that includes information on the original languages.
