I found out about this book a few years ago, when I read about Phil Vischer's "what happened to veggietales" statement on his website. Phil's story about how he wanted to save lives for God was very touching and moving to me, while also being funny at times, as well. It was great to go behind the scenes and see the making of "my childhood" and what he's trying to do next. This book has not only challenged me to use my talents to better God's kingdom, but it also has too many chapters on finance and how to run a business, from a christian worldview perspective. That's not a bad thing, but when it takes up almost half of the book, it can get a little boring at times and the pacing can often slow down too much. Otherwise, I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and I can't wait to see what Phil does next.

I enjoyed this book immensely. If you've seen any of Phil's work, you can guess that his wit and humor are laced throughout his tale, even though there were some very painful episodes during the rise and fall of Big Idea Productions. I skimmed several paragraphs in the early chapters describing the technical aspects of computer animation, but the book still read smoothly for that. The lessons he shares at the end of the book are so powerful for anyone, but I found them especially relevant as an author.

One of my favorite quotes: "God has taught me to focus not on results, but on obedience. Not on the destination, but on the journey."

Another one: "Beware of your dreams, for dreams make dangerous friends. . . Dreams are, I believe, misplaced longings. False lovers. Why? Because God is enough."

At times I couldn't put it down at other times I had to put it down so I could do other things. If you want to serve Jesus this book is for you. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself." Learn from Phil Vischer's mistakes and what he learned.

This book has been shared with our whole family, adults and teens especially. It is written with humor and absolute candor on Phil Vischer's part. Reading it has lead to some meaningful conversations between parents and their teens. Some important life lessons revealed and examined here. I highly recommend it.

I bought this book for someone else after hearing Phil Vischer on a radio interview. The young man (college student) that I purchased it for quickly read the book from cover to cover. The book had a profound impact on him, and I can't wait to read it next. Phil's story was so inspirational and encouraging that the young man emailed Phil to tell him how it encouraged him, and Phil even wrote back!
