Great health curriculum, even for parents who don't homeschool. This curriculum is great for teaching children the importance of saying no to harmful drugs. It can also encourage them to stay sexually pure.

I am surprised by the reviews. Yes, it does seem to be written for classroom use. I didn't let that stop me from using it in our homeschool. I just tweaked where I needed to because it was just my son and I. We still found this curriculum to be great and had fun with it. My son loved making a fake lung and showing what cigarette smoking did to the lungs. He then lectured his adult brother on why he should quit and all it does to the lungs. (success!) We went slowly through the drugs section and I made sure to reinforce how terrible and how life ruining they are. We went through the body systems (male and female) and spent lots of time in good discussions about all of it, including sex and waiting for marriage, and STDs. Those things made me a little nervous to talk about with my son but I remember having health class in 5th grade and learning the same stuff in school. It's the perfect time, right before puberty (or during in some cases). The curriculum made it much easier to talk about the topics with my son. Kids are learning things these days faster than we would like, so I wanted to be able to be the one to talk about it with him FIRST.

I taught 2 of my 3 daughters with this many years ago. We all loved it. I later had to add in another Math study to supplement but overall I was very pleased. NOW, I am homeschooling my granddaughter online. It is not as good as the Lifepacs. IF bad weather hits and our computers are out, we are pretty much stuck. Monarch is having computer problems all the time as well. It's frustrating. We have doctor's appointments. It is reasonable to take the Lifepacs with you while you wait. I am overall pleased with this.

I don't think this product is very homeschool user friendly. It is definitely not the open and go type curricula that I expected it to be. This curriculum is geared more toward classroom use. I have been extremely disappointed is the lay out of the lessons. As a busy homeschooling mom, that works outside the home part-time, I really do not have the time to prepare for the next days lessons.

I have 2 boys doing 2 different levels of Horizons Health and the material is such that it is impossible to teach them together. If I could present the material just once to both of my children it wouldn't be nearly as time consuming.

That being said the content is good and I like the workbook activities that go along with the lessons. I just wish more info was written in the student books for the child to read instead of the teacher having to present it and spoon feed the students information.

Last spring, before it was even released, our co-op decided to use the grade 5 Horizon's Health for co-op this school year. We were excited about a Christian health program for younger ages. We trusted Alpha Omega. We pre-ordered the teacher's manual, text, and corresponding workbook. When they finally arrived in the fall, we were greatly disappointed. The text was very public school oriented, discussing topics that the schools feel is necessary. Topics such as smoking, inhalants, drugs like marijuana and cocaine, your s3xuality, s3xually transmitted diseases, etc. We used them, but we ended up pulling in a lot of outside material and skipping large sections of the text.Maybe I have my head in the sand, but I didn't feel my oldest (11yo) needed all that information at this time. I certainly don't want her kept in a bubble, but I'd like to shield her from some of this stuff a while longer. I know, for co-op, we'll never use it again and I if I ever consider using it at home (which I sincerely doubt) I certainly would never buy it again without first carefully looking through it.
