He isn't very good with the human species, but to everyone surprise he is finally getting married. However, a friend is murdered and Nick's single-minded focus keeps pushing him to solve it. But what about his wedding in a few days? He is going to forget it or is he subconsciously running from it?
This is the 6th book of the Bug Man series, but for some reason after the 3rd they aren't marked as clearly. However they do follow each other, so I would suggest that you stay in order. I had read the first 3 novels and became a fan of the Bug Man. When I got Nick of Time, I found out that I had missed 2 other Bug Man books. I quickly got and read those, so I could be caught up. I enjoyed being in Bug Man mode for a couple weeks!
I really enjoyed Nick of Time. I continue to love Nick's quirkiness and wittiness. We were introduced to Alena, Nick's fiancée, a couple of books ago. She is an excellent addition with her own uniqueness. Tim Downs added a twist that I totally didn't see coming, and I usually am able to figure out books and movies pretty quickly! Also, the ending wasn't "perfect" which I felt was a breath of fresh air! It was closer to reality than books that try to wrap everything up neat and tidy. All I have to say is "Go get her, Nick!"
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. -

And he didn't disappoint! I found this one of the easiest reads in a long time. The plot keeps you wondering, the characters leave an endearing footprint on your heart, and the humorous statements give you some "laugh out loud" moments. In addition, you have an intelligent storyline that teaches you about something most of us have no idea about, which is entomology. Only one critique: the book wasn't long enough!

Tim Downs, Author
Thomas Nelson, Publisher
This is my first Tim Downs book in the series about Nick Polchak, also know as "The Bug Man". Nick is about to be married when he discovers his dear friend has been murdered. He goes to Philadelphia looking for clues to the murder of his friend. Nick is more comfortable with bugs than he is with people.
Nick disappears causing his fiance to wonder if he really wants to back out of the upcoming wedding. His fiance, Alena, and 3 of her dogs venture out to find her fiance.
But what she finds is not what she expected. -
BetsyAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Fast paced thriller!May 5, 2011BetsyAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Nick of Time is the fourth suspense novel in the "bug man" series by Tim Downs. Downs' main character, Nick Polchak, is a renowned forensic entomologist. He is also delightfully quirky man who maintains a dry sense of humor throughout the book. A forensic entomologist helps solve murders through studying bugs found at the crime scene. This book begins with less than a week to go before Nick is to be married. A colleague requests Nick's help in solving an old case. The two agree to meet up at the monthly Vidocq meeting. Once Nick arrives, however, things quickly fall apart. True to his nature, Nick becomes absorbed in the details of this case, leaving his fiancee, Alena, to wonder if Nick can commit to this marriage. And, will Nick return in the "nick of time" for his own wedding?
This is the third book that I have read by Tim Downs. Like the others, I found Nick of Time engaging and easy to read. There were times that I busted out laughing while reading it. (Which means that I will be reading this one out loud to my husband!) The plot is tight and fast paced. This book was definitely a delight to read. -

I liked the mysterious eerie look, and when I read what it was about, I knew I had to have it. I love suspense, thriller and mystery books, because I love seeing if I can figure out "who-done-it" before the answer is revealed.
Nick Polchak, or Bug Man, is only a few days away from marrying his fiance Alena, when he decides to attend his monthly Vidocq Society in Philadelphia of professional forensics. He plans on meeting up with his pal and forensic scientist Pete when he finds out his friend has been murdered in the city of Brotherly Love. He decides to take matters into his own hands, instead of contacting the police, by trying to solve the murder himself. He first suspects a man who he thinks worked with Pete just before his death. Later, he then starts to suspect everyone he meets. Alena gets worried about Nick and starts a search of her own to try to find her soon-to-be husband.
I have noticed that Tim Downs does not provide a very detailed description of his characters- he lets their actions and behaviour paint a picture in the readers minds as to what they look like. I find this way more interesting then reading a whole page as to what the individual looks like, from the shape of their glasses, to the size of their feet. Authors often provide unnecessary descriptions of their characters, and I sometimes feel like they are just trying to fill the pages. This is not the case.
Usually I am able to solve crimes by myself, but this novel kept me guessing until the very end! This book is very unpredictable, interesting, and exciting. The clues keep piling up, but like I said, I had to keep on guessing and guessing, as my predictions were not correct. The suprising twists and turns keep the reader interested and on their toes throughout the whole book.
I recommend this book to any of Tim Downs lovers, and anyone who enjoys a great thriller!
