Thomas Nelson Timescape, Dreamhouse Kings Series #4

David, Xander, Dad, and Keal have discovered a terrible secret. Now, finding Mom is only a small part of their mission. And time is running out. Using the portals to build an empire, Taksidian wants the house for himself, and there's nothing he won't do to get the family out. The consequences of his meddling reach far beyond the family--to the future of the world itself. The Kings know their survival depends on stopping the bloodthirsty assassin. If only they can find his weakness in time.

Most startling of all is their ability to change the path of history. But will their tinkering in time reunite the family and save the future . . . or set mankind on an irreversible course of destruction?

Review by Jill WilliamsonThe King family discover one portal that leads to the future, and it isnt pretty. Their only hope is to stop whatever it is that Taksidian is planning to do to create such a horrifying future. But how can they go up against someone they know so little about? They decide to switch things up, spy on Taksidian for a while. Do they really know what theyre getting themselves in to?Ack!!! Each of Robert Liparulos books end on cliffhangers and I think this was the biggest one yet. And now I must wait until January for book five in this six book series. Sigh. The Dream House Kings series is like one big novel split up into six installments. Its an exciting, action-packed adventure that follows the King family as they move into a house thats alive and try to discover their purpose for being there. Very highly recommended.

Would someone please option this series for the movies! Seriously! I can not read these books without picturing the whole movie in my head. Love this series! This is the perfect example of a series where you CAN NOT read them out of order - absolutely not! But book #4 "Timescape" is fantastic and it is the first book that uses settings suggested by readers. So we get to follow David through a portal onto the Titanic... as it is sinking! I love where this series is going and I plan on being along for the ride the whole way.David and Xander are still trying to find Mom somewhere in the portals, stave off the bad guy from taking their house and keep from getting killed. Uncle Jesse is in danger, the portals want Grandma back and Dad wants them to go to school??? Life is not normal at their house and they just want Mom back... why do I have the feeling that life is going to get worse for them before it gets better? This is hands down one of the best YA series I've ever read - get it now :-)

The family is off on another set of adventures through the time-shifting doors in their still-mysterious home. Timescape features two scenes that were suggested by Liparulos young fans through his Dream the Scene fan input contest.Book four is slanted more heavily towards straight up action and suspense than the creepy, supernatural feel of the previous titles. With more emphasis on vivid play-by-play scenes fraught with danger, and the growing threat of Taksidian towards the Kings Im surprised that the entire family isnt jumping out of their skins at every sound oh wait, they are for the most part. While Jesses arrival has shed some light on the houses origins, hes largely out of the picture in this novel, and much has yet to be revealed in the two final releases. Im sure that many fans are eagerly anticipating the conclusion of the series, and the revelation of further details surrounding the ultimate purpose of the house, but Liparulos playing hard to get.Its deliciously aggravating, and tantalizingly frustrating how he dangles a thread here, a tidbit there, but always holds the promise of deeper understanding off in the unforeseen future. With one of my favourite young adult trilogies recently having let me down with a lackluster climax, Im certainly hoping that Liparulo can deliver the goods by series end. These books are all lightning-fast reads, but if you havent started the series yet and want to get in on the action youll need to start at the very beginning with The House of Dark Shadows. You can pick up the first two titles for a song at Amazon theyre currently listed at $4.95 each. If you have any penchant for science-fiction and start reading the series youll be captured by Liparulos hooky writing and be dragged along to the very end of the trail just like me.
