Thomas Nelson An Angel by Her Side, Heaven on Earth Series #3
Twenty-nine year old Katie Bender's dream of marriage ended when her fiance' died seven years ago. She's content as the Amish settlement's schoolteacher, that is, until a tornado destroys the schoolhouse and several of the area's farms. Supplies are low and the needs are great. Rebuilding the schoolhouse is a low priority. But Katie knows a lot about survivng tragedy and she simply won't accept that her days of teaching are over.
Seth Stutzman is a master builder who is in town to install beehives on his brother-in-law's property and to offer him healing and support following his wife's recent death. Beehives aren't his passion, but they're his livelihood since making a fatal error, while working on a neighbor's barn. Seth arrives just as a tornado is wreaking havoc on Hope Falls. In spite of his construction error, he finds it difficult to abvoid joining the work crew.

"An Angel by Her Side" by Ruth Reid is such a sweet romance. This is the third in her Angel series. They do not have to be read in order. In this novel, the angel takes on human form that all can see and he also is the angel on the shoulder variety complete with devil on the other shoulder. Elias, the angel, helps Katie Bender, a teacher in an Amish community, and Seth, a bee hive maker from a neighboring community, not only fall in love, but help Amos and his family after Amos looses his way from the Lord along with his eyesight and his wife and daughter.
A tornado has hit the county while Seth is visiting his brother-in-law, Amos. Katie is at the school with her class when they seek shelter in the cellar. Seth, also seeks shelter in the same shelter and the sparks start to fly. With helping Amos following an accident, Katie spends a lot of time with Seth and the romance continues. In this novel they are in their late twenties, so the romance is much more adult and realistic. I really like Reid. She writes Amish, which isn't my favorite, but I am really liking her. Katie still feels responsible for the death of her fiancé and does not plan to marry. She works as a teacher in her community and feels like she has found her calling. Yet a tornado destroys her school and leaves her wondering what she will do next. Seth just happened to be in the right place at the right time and helped Katie and the school children to safety during the storm. He is visiting his brother to help him and does not plan to stay in the area. Elias the angel is watching over them both and as love blossoms so does a new understanding of God.
I have really enjoyed this series and this book lived up to my expectations. I really like how this book incorporates angels and evil spirits into the story. It may not be realistic but its so well written you can’t help but imagine a angle whispering God’s messages into your ear.
What I liked: I really liked Katie and Seth. Both where dealing with past issues that required them to listen to God for guidance. I love the good vs. evil that went on in this book. Not a lot of Christian fiction will write of a different realm like this author does and I really enjoy it. I also liked how characters from the first two books pop up from time to time. I liked how the story also dealt with Seth’s brother and how he was lost and slowly with the help of his family and spiritual guidance he found his way back. Very well written.
What I did not like: As much as I liked this book I thought the angel might have gotten to involved in the lives of the characters in the book. There is only one thing that really bothered me and it had to do with the little girl but I also have to remember its fiction and not real.
Over all this was a great book and I really enjoyed it. Both Katie and Seth had to let go and let God and it’s a good lesson for all of us. Adding the angel into the story made it interesting. I highly recommend this book.

A different Amish story, and yet a lot about living your life as Amish. The separation of their Community, and yet the being there for those who are not members.
We experience a lot of good and evil. Katie Bender has suffered a lot of loss in her young life. She has resigned herself to being a teacher, instead of a wife and mother. Then the a tornado destroys her school, along with a lot of their Community.
Seth Stutzman is visiting Hope Falls, he is trying to help his brother-in-law Amos. Seth builds bee hives, but he is also dealing with his demons. Amos is actually shunning his community, and is so bitter.
We find their are evil forces involved, whispering in their ears! Makes you realize where some of those thoughts you personally don't want come from! Especially if you love the Lord.
This book paints these pictures in your mind so that you actually feel like you are part of the battles. We look for Elias, the mighty angel. How lucky they are to have him, he seems to be there when needed.
Will the evil Razzen win? I vote for Elias, but will those hear him and pray?

An Angel by Her Side, by Ruth Reid, is the third book in her Heaven on Earth series. It tells the story of Katie Bender, the woman who has lost her fiancé, and now loses the schoolhouse and her job in a powerful tornado.
The novel begins with Katie teaching at the school, then suddenly hurrying the children into the cellar before a tornado strikes. Seth Stutzman arrives just in time to help them, and the two feel an instant connection, which neither of them welcomes. After the storm, they find that much of the community is destroyed, leaving no choice but to delay the rebuilding of a school. Katie finds herself assisting Seth’s family when his brother-in-law, Amos Mast, is injured. With the help of the angel, Elias, Katie and Seth are guided into the path that God has for them.
I enjoyed this story. Having already met Katie in the first two novels in this series, I looked forward to this book with anticipation. It did not disappoint me. Anyone who enjoys Amish fiction will love this book!

In An Angel by Her Side, we are invited to get to know Katie Bender and new-in-town Seth Stutzman. Katie lost her fiance years before and has basically decided she will never marry and is destined to be a teacher to the Amish children for the rest of her life. Then tragedy strikes and her school house, and many homes, are destroyed in a violent tornado. Through unfolding events, Katie and Seth find themselves thrust together time and time again. Oh, and Seth? He is the brother of Amos who hates, or at least REALLY dislikes Katie. Unbeknownst to them, Katie and Seth are having frequent interactions with an elderly angel named Elias. Elias intervenes on their behalf, helps them and offers unsolicited but highly welcome fatherly advice to both Katie and Seth. I loved this third installment and am so glad to have read this series. Each book can be read individually or as a series. Either way they are very enjoyable and I do recommend them.

An Angel by Her Side by Ruth Reid is going to be the book that I will forever remember. The story of two individuals brought together with the help of His angels and given the necessary guidance is such a beautiful story to me. The whole idea that we are helped in the love department of our lives is inspiring and believable. When you think that some of us do need the help to find our perfect mate it makes perfect sense that His angels are there to help out. Also, overcoming natural disasters and helping others while finding the love of our life is magical. This is a story that must be read.

To be honest I knew when I picked up this book I would like it. Ruth Reid is a very good writer. Her Heaven on Earth series is one of the best Amish series I've read. She adds a twist to a popular genre that keeps it fresh.
An Angel by Her Side hooked me in from the first sentence and did not let me go until the end. I could not put this book down. I was so caught up in the story of Katie and Seth that I shed happy tears at the end. I love to read a book that's so well written the characters seem not only real but like people you would love to have in your life.
